13 October 2020 – Pick Your Battles – Part 8

Joshua 10:8 The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.”

The Amorite kings heard about the invasions of Joshua and five kings allied together to attack Gibeon as the Gibeonites had signed a peace treaty with Joshua. The Gibeonites sent word to Joshua, “Do not abandon your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us! (verse 6). Hence, the Israelites defended the Gibeonites. When we are too strong for the enemy, he will attack the weaker areas of our domain. Also, the Amorites did not come alone. They mustered five armies to attack and assault. When there is an attack on family, finance or fortune  we will notice that demons will come in groups. They are cowards and will not come alone. Misunderstanding will come with anger, rage, gossip, bitterness and stress. Failure will be accompanied by low self-esteem, panic, pessimism, fear and depression. The Lord assured Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand”.  When the most sensitive areas of our life are attacked, when those who are close to us are tormented and our children become the target, remember the battle is the Lord’s. We must learn to transfer the control into His hands and lean and glean from His wisdom. God will give the vicious, violent and venomous  enemy into our hands.

When God is fighting on our behalf, not only the heavenly hosts but all of God’s creation will fight for us. The Lord Himself will overthrow the attacking mob:

1.     Hypertension: Joshua 10:10 The Lord threw them into confusion before Israel, so Joshua and the Israelites defeated them completely at Gibeon. The Lord will throw confusion into the cunning, crafty, cruel plans of the enemy. The conniving counsel of the enemy will cause confusion not clarity. God will send an ambush into the enemy’s camp to cause misinterpretation, misdirection and misapprehension to confuse their schemes against us.

2.     Hurled Hail: Joshua 10:11 The Lord hurled large hailstones down on them, and more of them died from the hail than were killed by the swords of the Israelites. Those who escaped the hands of Joshua were hit by the large hailstones that was hurled from heaven! When we think we don’t have the manpower, mind-power or brainpower to face the challenge, contest or contemporaries remember we have divine power to stretch beyond our human capacity with divine ability.

3.     Heavenly Help: Joshua 10:12 & 13b Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon”. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. The Lord made the sun and moon standstill until Joshua obliterated the enemy’s armies. The Lord will freeze the world with Coronavirus, close the borders or crash the stocks in order to bring a closure to our battle. When heavenly help comes, even nature, sun, moon and the universe will come to a standstill!

We don’t need allies, aid or advocates to fight our battle. We only need the Lord God Almighty to fight our battles. No battle is too big for Him; no enemy is too powerful for Him and no circumstance can overwhelm Him. Romans 8:31 If God be for us, who can be against us?

Joshua 10:14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!
