24 October 2020 – Prescription – Part 2

Proverbs 4:21-22 Fill your thoughts with My (God’s) words until they penetrate deep into your spirit. 22 Then, as you unwrap My words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being (TPT).

The Living Word of God is the healing stream to our body and soul. When our school of thoughts are aligned with God’s word until it seeps down into our spirit, it will impart living hope and radiant health to our body and soul. Hence, the medication to heal a diseased body and a depressed soul is in the God’s word. Daniel, a handsome, vibrant, brilliant man was taken captive to Babylon as a young lad. He was brutally separated from his family and his cosy hometown. For the Jews, being separated from Jerusalem and the temple was the most distressing and debilitating punishment. He had to stand up against pagan practices at the risk of his life. While he was a helpless hostage in the heathen land, he went back to the source of his strength, the prophetic letter from Jeremiah. Daniel 9:2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.

Jeremiah did not have access to online bible on his ipad but he drew strength from the scrolls of Prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah 29:10-11 10 This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The prescription for despondency, distress and depression is in God’s Word:

1.     Stamina: The stamina to overlook and overcome slander is hidden in God’s word. Psalms 119:23 Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees. The slanderingcolleagues tried to shoot Daniel down but Daniel was ten time more wiser than the satraps of the Babylon. Daniel 6:4 At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. The secret of Daniel’s spiritual stamina was the strength that he drew from God’s word. God’s word is the spiritual stamina to the soul. When slandered, slurred and smeared, meditate on His promises.

2.     Supplement: God’s Word is the multi-vitamin supplement that builds our resistance against sin. Psalms 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. The word of God that was hidden in Daniel’s heart not only kept him from sinning but also positioned him for promotion. The word of God boosted Daniel’s spiritual strength but brought stinging stigma to the slanderers. It is the stronghold of protection to our soul from lowering our spiritual standard. “Never sacrifice your spiritual stand to get even with someone who has none. Let them have the gutter.”

3.     Strength: The source of strength to overcome depression and distress is the Word of God. Psalms 119:28 My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. Daniel’s prayer was poignant, prospective and powerful as they were based on the promises. Daniel did not lament, mourn and grieve about their defeat, distress and disgrace rather, he confessed and contended on Jeremiah 11:29. Confessing the promises of God over and over again will strengthen a sorrowful soul.

Feeding on God’s word, will increase our spiritual stamina, boost and strengthen our sorrowful soul. Have you taken your prescription medicine today?
