14 Nov 2020 – Burdens – Part 8

Matthew 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

The backpack of financial burdens, the rucksack of relational burdens, the weightiness of emptiness, the barricade of sin and the heaviness of abuse must be downloaded at the cross of Calvary in exchange for the yoke that Jesus lays on us. There must be an exchange as void will always be refilled and replaced with rubbish if not replenished with divine resources and riches. “Empty mind is the devil’s workshop.” An uncontrolled animal will become a wild beast. His yoke is easy and light as Christ Himself will hold the burden that He places on our hearts with His hands.

To understand the irony of the effortless yoke and light burden, we must interview the donkey that carried Jesus into Jerusalem.  The triumphant entry of King Jesus was on a colt. Matthew 21:7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on.

The below mentioned is the excerpts from the donkey, the based burden bearer, after experiencing and enjoying the crescendo of his life by carrying the Master:

1.     Centred: Jesus said, you will find a colt having been tied, on which none of mankind yet sat (Mark 11:2b). He was an untrained, untamed and untutored donkey, but he was able to carry Jesus, as the purpose of the journey was pioneered by Jesus. When our life becomes Christ centric and God focused, our goals, missions and visions will also become God focused. His thoughts will become our thoughts, His agenda, ours and His burden, our burden. Only when we carry Jesus in our hearts, we will have burden for souls and their salvation. Galatians 6:2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

2.     Called: Mark 11:3 And if someone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’, say, ‘The Lord has need of it’. “Called” is to be set apart for a purpose. This degraded, devalued, debased beast  was called for a divine purpose. God calls the unqualified, undervalued and unskilled to carry Him into the dark world. Not all of us are called to be on the pulpit, He needs more preachers in the platforms on crowded street corners. It does not matter how many instagram followers we have or how many facebook likes we get, we must be like the donkey approved and accepted by the Master. The easy yoke lays a divine purpose in our hearts.  1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

3.     Clothed: Matthew 21:7 They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. The abased donkey was not only called but also clothed and covered with celestial cloak. He was not the dirty donkey tied in the corner of the street but an esteemed costly carter that carried Christ.  The failures of life throw dirty clothing on us. Back in Jesus days, the blind had a dark degrading cloak, leapers had a debasing cloak and so did the prostitutes, but when they came to Jesus, He washed, cleaned and decked them with the divine clothing of righteousness, humbleness and holiness.

Let us download the burdens of stress, sin and sickness and upload the light burden of Jesus Christ. Become the donkey that carries the Master. His yoke is light and His burden is easy.

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”.
