05 Feb 2021- Past, Present & Future – Part 1

Ephesians 5:15-16 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

God lives outside the constraint of time.  He cannot be limited by time or age. He is immortal, invincible and imperial. He was a “Father” to my grandfather, He was a Father to my “Dad” and He is my Father and a Father to my children and grandchildren. God doesn’t age!  The Almighty God, who is not limited or restricted by time has placed us within the constriction of time to add meaning, purpose and value to life. Genesis 1:16 God made two great lights–the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He gave us the sun and moon to give us a circle of day and night. We calculate, days, months, years and seasons with the two great lights that God has blessed us with. No one can escape the discipline of time. Minutes are more valuable than money. Spend them wisely – Thomas P Murphy.

It is time that helps us to determine past, present and future. Time gives us a beginning and the end to the season of life. Time helps us to divide life into the different dimensions of past, present and future. Past is behind, learn from it. Future is ahead, prepare for it, Present is here, live it. Hence time is a gift that God has given to humanity.

Three important facts about time:

1.     Precious: As time lost can never be gained back, we must be careful to make the most of everyday and every opportunity. Time is precious, spend it wisely. Paul advises us to use every opportunity as our last opportunity because the days are evil and we don’t know what the future holds. When we realise the value of time and the gift of life, we will endeavour to achieve the most, give the best and try the hardest to live a purposeful life. Make the most of today, time is precious.

2.     Permanent: Nothing is permanent in life; neither the problem, crisis and emotions nor the awards, celebrations or crowns. We don’t chop the leg because the wound is bleeding. Similarly, emotions that are overwhelming today will vanish tomorrow, so don’t let emotions or commotions of life, change your character.  God has blessed us with the gift of time, seasons and days. Today’s problem is tomorrow’s history.  So, let us stop being the prisoner of the past and become the architect of the future. Improvise your present with the lessons of the past.  Don’t make permanent changes to fix temporary problems.

3.     Priceless: Even the richest man on earth cannot buy back his time. Time is free but it is priceless. You can’t own it but you can use it. You can’t keep it but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.  When the truth of the value of time becomes part of our thinking we will not waste a day, an hour and our time in wasteful and stressful endeavours but will be mindful to deploy it in successful and sensible ventures.

Time, season, days, months and years are a gift from God to learn from the past, give our best to the present and purposefully invest into the future.

Isaiah 43:18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing!.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be my best in the short span of life; to stop wallowing in the past, to live my best in the present and invest wisely and righteously into my future. Amen
