23 June 2021 – Physiology of Love – Part 6

Deuteronomy 30:6 And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.

The hardest working muscle is the heart. It pumps out 71 grams of blood at every heartbeat and pumps at least 9,450 litres of blood every day. The heart has the ability to beat over 3 billion times in a person’s life. Hence we can safely conclude that the heart is the most important muscle in the human body. Heart attack is the result of a blockage in the artery when the blood struggles to flow freely into the heart muscle. Constant stress, family history and bad food habits can also cause heart attack.

As the heart condition is vitally important to a healthy body, an honest heart pumping genuine love is crucially important to our spiritual health. Our heart must be clean, uncoated and unclogged to love the Lord authentically. Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Loving the Lord with all our heart will be tested in what we hate. Our Heavenly Father detests – pride, prejudice and pretence.

Three cautions to guard our heart:

1.     Coronary Artery: A blockage in one of your coronary arteries can cause a heart attack. The heart of the Israelites were clogged with pride, arrogance and stubbornness and the Lord said that He will circumcise or do an ‘open heart surgery’ to clean their spiritual coronary arteries from the cholesterol of pompous, pretentious and proud religiosity. Proverbs 27:19 As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man. The exercise that will perform spiritual circumcision and cleanse the spiritual coronary artery is ‘surrender’. When the spiritual arteries are clear of pride, our heart will pump genuine love.

2.     Congenital  Heart:  Congenital  heart conditions include a range of birth defects that affect the normal functioning of the heart. Spiritually, this relates to generational curses and iniquities in the lineage that debilitates our lives. However, the Lord has promised a new heart instead of a Congenital  heart to those who make a new covenant with Him. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:36). When we humble ourselves, God will exchange our Congenital , cursed, deformed and dysfunctional heart with a healthy, humble and honourable heart.

3.     Cold-Heart: Cold heart is a religious heart that is legalistic, unloving and licentious. Jesus rebuked the religious leaders who meticulously followed a set of canons yet, had no love in their heart. Matthew 15:8 These people honour Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their hearts were cold as a stone and their prayers were ostentatious, superstitious and pretentious. Submission in His presence will cut through the bitter pretentious crevices of the heart and ignite Holy fire in cold-hearts.

The exercise of surrender and submission and the bench-press of humility will clear the coronary artery, heal the Congenital heart and inflame the cold-hearted. Love the Lord with every artery, valve and muscle of your heart.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to rest on your bosom and listen to your heartbeat to align my heart’s desire to submit to your destiny. Amen
