02 August 2021 – Salty or Seasoned – Part 4

2 Chronicles 13:5 Ought you not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingship over Israel forever to David and his sons by a covenant of salt?

Salt metaphorically signifies permanence, persistence and purification. A “Covenant of Salt” is a binding and perpetual promise of loyalty, durability, fidelity and love. Salt symbolically sealed friendships. A contract is a legally binding agreement however, a covenant in a spiritual unbreakable promise. While a contract has clauses to break or reverse; a covenant is an irreversible perpetual pledge. God made a covenant with Abraham about 6,000 years ago, which is valid even today (Genesis 12:2-3).  God made a covenant with Noah at the end of the great flood and the rainbow is the evidence to mark the permanency of the covenant (Genesis 9:13). The Lord God made a covenant with David and King Jesus was born in the family line of David to fulfil the terms of the “Salt Covenant”. The eternal kingdom was established on the earthly throne of David.

“Salt Covenant” was made with these ancient heroes of the Bible as they were found righteous, integrous and humble. God makes a covenant with us when we are accepted into the family of God but He makes an everlasting “salt covenant” with those who walk in obedience, holiness and meekness. I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant (Ezekiel 37:26b). Make a perpetual Salt Covenant  and cover the salvation, liberation and redemption of your family line.

Three requirements of Salt Covenant:

1.   Integrity: The obligation of a “salt covenant” is the Godly saltiness of integrity. “Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.” Abraham was integrous to His calling not knowing that He would become the Father of Faith. He believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not (Romans 4:17b). Season your ways with the salt of integrity.

2.   Longevity: The prerequisite of the Salt Covenant is the Godly saltiness of obedience in the midst of  uncertainties. Bible scholars believe that it would have taken from 55 to 75 years to build the ark. Noah chopped, sliced, drilled, hinged, varnished and veneered the ark in submission to God’s Word even though they had not experienced rain until the great flood inundated the earth. The persistence and longevity of Noah was the allen-key that unbolted the Salt Covenant with the Almighty. Secure your Salt Covenant with trustworthiness and longevity.

3.   Humility: The indispensable criteria for the Salt Covenant is the Godly saltiness of humility. David was humble when he was abased or exalted. Humility is royalty without a crown. David was humble as a shepherd boy and he remained humble as the King of Israel. In the crescendo of his power and might, Nathan confronted David about his sin with Bathsheba. David humbled himself before his servants, attendants and senators. Hence his humility earned the Salt Covenant of the perpetual crown of God’s Glory.  Humility is the signature of the Salt Covenant.

The foundation of the irrevocable “Salt Covenant” of God’s friendship is built on the virtues of integrity, sincerity and humility.

Psalm 103:17-18 But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’s love is with those who fear Him, and His righteousness with their children’s children— with those who keep His covenant and remember to obey His precepts.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may my obedience, trustworthiness, longevity and humility secure the perpetual Salt Covenant of perpetual divine prosperity, potency and provision. Amen.
