19 September 2021 – Light & Legacy – Part 3

Proverbs 20:27 The spirit (conscience) of man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching and examining all the innermost parts of his being.

The conscience of a man is the lamp and light of his heart. Conscience of a human is a force and energy that controls the conduct. It is the light of the soul. The conscience castsigates and corrects. The energy that the conscience emanates, enlightens the mind with thoughts, separating the right from wrong. Every human is born with the lamp of the Lord in their innermost being. Hence conscience can be best understood as a lamp that lights up our heart.

The light in the conscience can be put out by repeated disobedience.  If the lamp is not refilled with fresh oil and the wick is not changed and maintained, the light could be snuffed. If the lamp is cracked the oil would leak. The lamp could also be filled with contaminated oil that would combust the mind with corruption. A good example would be a terrorist bootcamp where innocent minds are injected with hatred, violence and homicide, poisoning the heart and darkening the mind. The lamp of the Lord in the heart of these men is quenched and the light of the soul is switched off. The spirit of a man illuminates the heart with moral and ethical understanding.

The lamp has to be cleaned, polished, lubricated for the light to glow bold and bright.

  1. Examines:  The light of the Lord examines the contents and intents of our spirit man. Psalms 26:2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart. When the light is turned on in our spirit man, the deeds of darkness will automatically exit. Both light and darkness cannot co-exist. Everyone hating his brother is a murderer(1 John 3:15). Hatred in the heart will leave blood stains in the hands. Lamp examines the intent of the heart.
  1. Enthralls: The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” as their eyes of their heart are blinded with the deception of the devil. Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.  The lamp of the Lord removes the speck of enticements that enthralls the heart.
  1. Enlightens: The lamp of the Lord enlightens our soul. The candle of the Lord is lit when we read His word and allow it to change and transform us. For it is you who light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness (Psalms 18:28).  It is the lamp of the Lord in the spirit of a man that echoes in his heart, “don’t lie”, “do not slander” or “don’t covet”. His light brightens our path and keeps us from stumbling into sin.

If the lamp is broken, fix it; If it is dirty, clean it, if the wick is wearing out, replace it and if it is running out of oil, refuel. Righteous living, Godly choices and obedience to God’s Word makes the light of the lamp in our spirit shine brighter and leaves a lasting legacy.

Proverbs 4:18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

Prayer:  Father of Lights, may your light be bright as a noon day in my heart, teaching, coaching and leading me into the path of Righteousness, Godliness and Holiness. Amen.
