24 September 2021 – Promises & Problems – Part 1

Joshua 23:14 You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.

Everet R. Storms, a Canadian schoolteacher estimated that there are 7,487 promises that God has made to man in the Bible. There are no problems that are not covered by a divine promise to save, deliver and restore us. There is no mountain too high to claim, no challenge too hard to circumvent, and no crisis too catastrophic for God to resolve. However, many are stuck in their muck as they are ignorant of the bylaws, code and privileges. Lack of knowledge of the scriptures is one of the main causes that drown people in the pitfalls and problems. Those who are prudent see danger and take refuge, but the naïve continue on and suffer the consequences (Proverbs 27:12). Let God’s promises shine on your problems – Corrie Ten Boon. Proclaiming the promises of God in faith will scorch the problems to dust.

The Lord God promised real estate, properties and possessions to the Israelites by an oath with their forefather Abraham. However, an unfaithful generation had to die in the wilderness before the generation of Joshua could inherit the promised territory. In the land that they inherited the Lord God gave them prosperity, fertility and security. All the promises that were given to Abraham were fulfilled; not one has failed. The physical possession of the Promised Land is the typology for the spiritual inheritance of the promises in the Word of God. The battle strategy of Joshua is the spiritual winning stratagem for our current day predicaments.

The winning Strategy to possess the promises:

  1. Read: Defeat ignorance. Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. If we violate traffic rules and plead ignorance, our fine will not be reversed. Ignorance of the law is no defense. Psalms 119:50 Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles. Both leather bound Bibles and Bible apps are readily available and accessible. Do a topic search on the problems to find an answer/antidote from God’s Word. There is an answer even to the millennial problems such as anxiety, stress or obesity. Don’t just read the scriptures, absorb and defeat ignorance.
  1. Ruminate: Destroy worry. The thoughts of a man’s heart are like deep waters, But the discerning man draws them out. (Proverbs 20:5). Don’t just think, ponder – Roy T Bennett. Over thinking will only lead to worry, anxiety and evil forebodings; pondering will draw insight.  Ponder on how the heroes of faith faced and fought the battles to inherit God’s covenantal promises. Meditation of the promises and the precedents from the Bible, destroys fear and worry.
  1. Repeat: Dislodge doubt. I praise You seven times a day for Your righteous judgments (119:164). Take a 2 minutes’ ‘praise break’ every hour even during your hectic business hours to praise God for His justice and judgments. Praise bulldozes the problem, sets the answer on a momentum and accelerates the fulfillment of the promise. Dislodge doubt.

We are not waiting on God to fulfill His promises, He is waiting on us to defeat ignorance, destroy worry and dislodge doubt.

Joshua 21:45 Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, teach me to draw divine direction and supernatural strength from your Word to overcome the challenges of life. With praise on my lips and promises in my heart I will triumph over the problems and pitfalls. Amen.
