30 September 2021 – Promises & Problems – Part 7

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.

The promises of God secure our future generations. Our choices not only impact our life but influence our bloodline even after we are dead and gone! The promises of God are covenantal coverings that serve as a canopy of protection to those who are obedient to His commandments. Our choice to choose purity over pleasure will position not only us, but our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and up to a thousand generations, to enjoy peace and prosperity. We will live in the favour of God, in favour with man, and even in favour of our enemies.

Abraham comes from a family of idol worshippers (Joshua 24:2), but his right choice to follow the Lord turned the trajectory of a childless couple into the Father of many nations. “I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants (Genesis 35:11). Even after 6000 years, Abraham’s generations are still making withdrawals from the covenant that God made with him.

Our choice to follow the mandate and live virtuously will turn our sorrow into joy, curses into blessings and fallacy into favour. Promises are generational covenants that will inundate our heritage with prosperity and preferential treatment.

Divine Promises are generational wealth:

  1. Will: If the children are not aware of ‘the Will’, they will never be able to enjoy the inheritance. Hence, teach the blessings that are embedded in the commandments of God. Deuteronomy 6:7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down. Talk about your testimonies around the dinner table. The topic of discussion during a family trip, trekking or travelling must be about divine victories. Store up righteousness and secure your future. Pass on ‘the Will’.
  1. Warning: The warning and conditions attached to exercising ‘the Will’ must never be forgotten or ignored. Compliance to the commands brings blessings and noncompliance exposes us to curses. The emptiness and dryness in Abraham were turned into flourishing fullness by simple submission to the caveat. The caveat warns us about curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live (Deuteronomy 28:19). Pass on blessings and caution about curses.
  1. Writ: The promises secure our possessions, people and promotions. Right choices fence us with divine protection. The promises serve as ‘writs’ that crush the plans of the devil and ‘summons’ that which will topple our enemies. No man shall be able to stand before you (Deuteronomy 11:25). Influence, affluence and opulence will not be able to subdue us. When we live under divine promises and protection, our enemies have only two choices: either to befriend us or bow down to us. Pass on authority.

The promises of God not only prosper us but turn our curses into blessings. Promises are legal documents with rights, writs and warnings. Promises of God are the will and wealth that we secure for our future generations.

Psalms 112:1-2 Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands. His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I choose to walk in righteousness as my decisions direct the destiny of my generations to come. Amen.
