18 November 2021 – Angelic Beings – Part 7

Hebrews 1:6 “Let all God’s angels worship Him.”

The one common functionality of the different ranks of angels is “worship”. The angelic hosts is the well-trained harmonized choir and the largest orchestra in the universe. When angels are excited they sing. Worshiping and singing are their expressions of exaltation. As soon as  the angel announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds in the field,  there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased” (Luke 2:13-14). The myriads of angels joined the flash-news reader with both songs of amazement and astonishment as they saw the creator of the cosmos being bundled up in a meager manger in Bethlehem.

Angels rejoiced and marveled when the foundations of the earth were concreted and created. When the morning stars sang together, and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy? (Job 38:7). Worship, songs and praise connect the celestial with the terrestrial. Angels would be our back up voices as we hum in the shower, chirp in the sunshine or sing in the choir.

There is one difference between the angels and humans. Angels sing of the glory of God but we resound both the glory and the grace of God. Angels can sing about the majesty and might of God but only humans can sing about grace, salvation and deliverance. Angels have never received grace, mercy or forgiveness for their sins, hence they can only sing about the ‘glory’ not the ‘grace’ of God; However they are our backup vocalists.

The myriad of angels are the heavenly choir:

  1. Annunciate:Gabriel is the chief messenger angel. The announcement of the birth of Jesus to the virgin Mary discombobulated the Jewish teenager. This message that had to be brought by the Archangel Gabriel as a virgin birth of the Messiah was confusing, not only to the young girl but also to the angelic ensemble.  Hence when the Heavenly hosts witnessed the birth of Jesus, they burst into joyful songs in the amphitheater in the night sky. Angels announced and annunciated the arrival of the Messiah.
  1. Accentuation:Throughout the journey of Jesus on the earth, the angels were the ministering agents to Jesus. Jesus told Peter that there are twelve legions of angels on duty at the disposal of Jesus even moments before He was arrested(Matthew 26:53). A legion has 6,000 soldiers and twelve legions would be 72,000 soldiers. Angels accompanied and accentuated the ministry of the Messiah.
  1. Appointment:The celestial choir of angels who were present at the birth were missing at the resurrection of Jesus. Angels are not omnipresent. They can be only at one place at one time. They were missing on earth as they were auditioning for the ordination of the resurrected King Jesus in heaven. The crowing and coronation of the resurrected Jesus would have been a splendid celebration and carnival in the cosmos. “Who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to Him” (1 Peter 3:22).The angelic choir assembled in Heaven to receive King Jesus after His resurrection to His righteous throne.

The angelic choir is the rhythm, resonance and reverberation of Heaven.

Psalm 148:2 Praise Him, all His angels;Praise Him, all His hosts!

Prayer:Father of the Hosts of Heaven, teach me to be the resounding choir of heaven on earth. Thank you for the angelic backup singers who join my praise and worship. Amen.
