19 November 2021 – Raise Your Bar – Part 1

Psalm 34:3 O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

God can never be made bigger than who He already is but He can be limited by our thoughts. David in Psalm 34 is calling us to magnify, exonerate and enlarge our expectations and understanding of God. There is no limit to the magnitude, potent or authority of the risen King Jesus. The battle is not between God and the devil; it is between faith and disbelief. The Lord God would fry the devil with a blink of His eye. Fire goes before Him and consumes His foes on every side (Psalm 97:3). The limitation is on how we view and envisage God. One of the biggest hindrances to miracles is the bar of limitation.  We magnify the crisis and minify God.  We amplify the problem out of proportion and minimize the power of God.  Break the bars of limitation and raise the bars of expectation of the Lord God.

This is why Jesus taught us to look up to Heaven when we start our prayer – “Our Father in Heaven”. Madam Corrie Ten Boom rightly said — “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God you’ll be at rest.” We can never magnify God until we take our eyes off the earth and look Heavenward.

We can magnify the Lord only if we know Him. Trusting His supreme authority will position us with prime precision to perceive the potentity of God. God has the last say on everything.  Ephesians 1:21 Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.  There were several super powers throughout the history of the world, but the resurrected Christ is above all authorities, rulers, dominions and kingdoms.

Break the bars of limitations:

  1. All: The word “All” in English means absolutely everything! “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18). The White House might have extensive powers yet, it does not have “all powers”.  The supreme court of a country is the highest judicial power of the state yet, it does not have “all authority”. When we look heavenward, we receive supernatural strength from a God who is Almighty, All-Powerful and Omnipotent. God is all-powerful.
  1. Above: God is above our boss, bossy intruder and the bully of the town. He is above the seditious co-worker, sly competitor or slimy neighbour. God is bigger than the bank, bureau or the diabolical boutsLooking at the reports, news, and broadcasts will be distressing; looking at our drawbacks will be depressing but looking above at the reality into the supremacy of God will break all the bars of limitations. God is above-all.
  1. Authority: The more we gaze our eyes into the throne of our God, the higher we will be elevated and the bigger our God will be in dimension, influence and powerThe authority of our God is unlimited yet limited to the magnitude of our vision of Him. God has the ultimate authority.

Oh magnify the Lord, break the bars of limitations, and raise your bar.

Luke 10:19 I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, You rule over all the earth. Nothing and no one can stand before your power and authority. Amen.
