06 February 2022 – The Power of Consistency-Part 2

Psalm 145:2 Every day I will praise you and extol your name forever and ever.

“You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.” “Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time.” – John C. Maxwell. No one can play in ‘Grand Slams’ after a week of training. Consistent and persistent practice will perfect any player. Achievers are not born champions; consistency, discipline and practice make them winners. “What you do daily determines what you do permanently” – Mike Murdock.

There are very few verses in the Bible mentioned about Enoch. However his spiritual disciple helped him to avoid tasting death. Enoch walked with God: and he was no more; for God took him” (Gen 5:24). Enoch was not born walking and talking with God. He developed a discipline of “walking in the woods” and listening to the whispers of the Lord for 300 years! Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters (Genesis 5:22). This means he did not miss his quiet time of prayer for 109,500 days – straight!. He was not a monk living in the Himalayas. Enoch was a family man as he had sons and daughters during these 300 years. He had to deal with dirty dishes, soccer games and work pressure, just like you and me.  Yet, his daily discipline made Him a mysterious meditating maverick! This is the power of consistency.

Consistency does not mean that we will never fail. It only means that when we fail we must spring back up, dust our backs and keep going. Though a righteous man falls seven times, he will get up (Proverbs 24:16).

Truth about consistency:

  1. DesireConsistency starts with a simple choice to do something every day. Everyday means every day – including holidays, birthdays and holydays. Holidays are to rest from the rat race not our routine. Holidays make more room to concrete the daily discipline. Unless we have a desire to discipline our time and tasks, we will never become consistent.
  1. DecisionConsistency is a decision. Myles Munroe decided at the age of 14 years that he will not drink, dope or waste time at the dancing clubs. While his friends were smoking pot he memorized the book of John.  It was his decision as a teenager that evolved him as an avid professor of the Kingdom of God, author, speaker and an international leadership consultant.
  1. DisciplineConsistency is a discipline. Discipline does not stop when we leave school. Discipline sets our routine that ensures growth. A disciplined person will be consistent anywhere, anytime, all the time. The discipline of walking with God in the woods anointed Enoch as a prophet with no university education or theological training. It is the decision to be consistent that will make us outstanding.

The power of consistency is the secret of excellence.

Hebrews 11:5a By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death:

Prayer: Dear Jesus, You are my divine instructor. Help me to be disciplined and consistent in my decisions. Amen.
