Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
There are no moths, termites, vermin, rust or robbers in Heaven. No one can access our bank locker to steal our gold, shares or possessions stored in the divine bank locker. The accountants of Heaven will never make a mistake to credit the wrong account for the goodness or the goods that we have deposited into the divine treasury. The size of our locker will depend on the matter that we are depositing in Heaven.
Our deposits into the treasury of Heaven could be time, talent or tithe. Divine treasures are not accumulated by ‘what’ but ‘why’ we give. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you (Matthew 6:3-4). Secret gifts on earth deposit permanent treasures in heaven.

Three ways to accumulate treasures in Heaven:
1. Suffering: “Persecution” is strangely the investment in heaven that yields the highest returns. “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven. (Matthew 5:11-12a). Are you insulted, ill-treated and falsely accused for the name of Jesus? Rejoice! your returns will be unbelievably high in Heaven. (This suffering does not include the stigma caused by our sins and scam). Suffering for Christ produces hundredfold treasures in Heaven.
2. Service: We don’t serve to receive treasures but we are endowed because we serve unselfishly. If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I tell you the truth, that person will surely be rewarded (Mark 9:41). There is a ‘Reward Register’ in Heaven that records a tender encouragement that we give to the broken-hearted, the selfless intercessions for the sick and the time invested into soul winning conversations. Everything we do to build God’s kingdom sacrificially amasses treasures in Heaven.
- Seeds: Sowing time, money or talent into the Kingdom of God yields divine rewards. “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:1). If we gloat about our service to the church or community, if we boast about our giving, goodness or generosity to others, then our divine bank account will remain at ‘nil’ balance. Sow seeds secretly into the Heavenly economy.
Store up treasures in Heaven.
Matthew 6:2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do.. to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, the appreciation and accolades I receive on earth will rust and reek. Make me Heaven focused to accumulate reserves and rewards in Heaven. Amen.
