Mark 5:9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.”.
Demons operate in gangs. They don’t invade alone. There are ranks, leaders and captains of demonic leagues. Hell is departmentalized based on the activity. Demons specialize in violence, riots, divorce and division. There are ‘rebellion specialist’, ‘rage specialist’ or ‘revenge specialist demons’. The specialists have support assistants and siblings who accompany them. They have a plan and purpose of attack. So never underestimate a moment of weakness or brush it aside as a one-off flaw. Unless the error is confessed and repented, it is most likely that it will reoccur very soon.
Jesus stepped into the region of the Gerasenes and a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him (Mark 5:2b-4). He ran, fell at the feet of Jesus and said, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” (Mark 5:7). The demons in this man had no right to use the name of the Most High God, yet, they tried to impede Jesus from expelling them. Jesus asked them “What is your name?”. “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” Jesus asked the demoniac his name in order to undergird a very important truth that the demonic realm operates in gangs.
Anger will be accompanied by hatred, resentment, disobedience, rage, rebellion, violence, self-harm (most times), depression, derision and suicide. Similarly, lust, licentiousness, deceit, drinking or eating will also attack in gangs.
Three tools to obliterate the attacking enemy army:
1. Presence: The presence of the Lord makes demons shudder and flee. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him (Mark 5:6). When there is a dark oppression, temptation or depression, invite the presence of the Lord. Praise and worship drives out the lethal spirits. Switch from whining to worship mode.
2. Power: The presence of the Lord automatically brings His power. We don’t have to fast for the power of the Holy Spirit. When the president comes into your home for dinner, his supremacy, authority, influence and majesty accompanies him. Likewise, just seek the presence of the Holy Spirit and His power will accompany.
- Pill: The pill that will kill demonic activity is the Word of God. The man who was delivered from the tormenting violent spirit sat at the feet of Jesus steeped and soaked in His preaching. They saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind. (Mark 5:15). Read, repeat, memorize and exterminate demonic activity with scripture.
The demonic ghetto operates in gangs.
Mark 5:8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
Prayer: Jesus My Redeemer, Your presence brings Your power that annihilates any demonic intrusion. Help me to keep my territory secured by Your word. Amen.
