18 May 2022 – The Enemy – Part 5

James 1:14 But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.

Deceptive demons that demean, depress and discourage hide under the shroud of scientific names and medical terminologies. The ‘demon of fear’ has a fancy medical name, “anxiety disorder”. The ‘spirit of distress’ is called ‘depression’, ‘lying spirit’ is camouflaged as ‘pathological lying’ and the spirit of bondage is called ‘addiction’. There are times when medical intervention is required but trying to cure a spiritual sickness with prescription pills is silly. Any compulsive disorder requires spiritual healing. The symptoms can be calmed for a short while by medication but cure comes only from the Holy Spirit. Medicating a spirit of death (suicide), fear or depression will only sedate the demon. The person tormented by the enemy will get temporary relief but will wake up with the demon after a long drugged sleep.

A spiritual malfunction normally manifests in the natural. “Spirit of fear” (2 Timothy 1:7), lying spirit (1 Kings 22:22), spirit of error (1 John 4:6), deceiving/seducing spirits (1 Timothy 4:1), spirit of infirmity (Luke 13:11), sprit of whoredoms/adultery (Hosea 4:13-19), spirit of divination (Acts 16:16), familiar spirit (Deuteronomy 18:11) are demonic evil spirits that taunt and torture individuals. These cannot be healed by pharmacy drugs. At times drugs are required to give the physical body rest but the spiritual man can be delivered only by fasting and prayer. Unfortunately with the advancement of science, seeking spiritual help has been sidelined or even forgotten.

Antidotes to annihilate the evil spirits:

1.     Spirit of Fear: Fear is a God-given emotion. Fear keeps us alert and agile to foresee the danger ahead but when fear makes us petrified and paralyzed, it is the evil spirit of fear that is trying to intimidate and control us. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (1 Timothy 1:7). Insomnia, anxiety and nightmares are some symptoms of the spirit of fear.  Drugging ourselves with sleeping tablets does not get rid of the root of the issue. Drive out the spirit of fear

2.     Spirit of Depression: Depression is caused by a spirit of despair/hopelessness. Despondency leaves a person with a broken spirit. But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken (Proverbs 15:13b). Antidepressants don’t drive out the evil spirit of despair, it only alleviates the distress temporarily. Praise is the pill. Garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair (Isaiah 61:3b). If those who are suffering depression are not mentally stable to pray or praise, don’t confine them to a rehab centre. Surround them with praise and the evil spirit will flee. Praise is the antidote to drive out depression.

  1. Spirit of Bondage: Any compulsive disorder can be categorized under bondage. Bondage to alcohol, drugs, divination, nicotine, perversion, pornography, compulsive lying, cheating, uncontrolled violence and abusive unbridled tongue are all insinuations of the spirit of bondage. If this evil spirit is not chased out, it will control and cause compulsive disorders. Resist and expel the spirit of bondage

Spiritual conditions require spiritual antidotes.

Acts 8:23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”

Prayer: Welcome Holy Spirit, come and flood my life to keep me hedged against any slithering seductive evil spirits. Amen.
