01 June 2022 – Rattling the Cage – Part 4

Daniel 5:5 Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote.

King Belshazzar, the Babylonian King, held a great banquet for a thousand nobles. The palace turned into the dance clubs of Las Vegas. While they were all inebriated, the frivolous drunkard, Belshazzar, ordered to bring the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar, his father, had usurped from the temple in Jerusalem, for the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines to drink from them. The drinking party turned into derogatory revelry as the scoffers mocked the Lord God, the God of the Jews. As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone (Daniel 5:4). Immediately, the fingers of a human hand appeared in the smoky ethos and wrote an Aramaic inscription on the wall, “mene, mene, tekel, parsin”. (Daniel 5:25). None of the enchanters, astrologers and diviners could interpret the mysterious writing on the wall. The petrified king looked for Daniel, (the counselor and prophet of his father). God rattled the pompous, prideful and pejorative party in the palatial palace of Babylon with the writing on the wall.

Daniel interpreted the writing as “numbered, weighed, divided”. The days of the disdainer, Belshazzar, who profaned the Lord God was numbered. He was weighed in a balance and found lacking and his kingdom was going to be divided into two. The same night the kingdom was invaded by Persia and was divided between Medes and the Persians.

Don’t lose heart when God is mocked, Godly principles and the Word of God are brutally violated. The Lord God will not sit back and watch the wicked. The judgement has been written and it will be executed. Daniel was praying in the prayer closet while the molesters were partying. His prayers brought judgement on the scorners.

God rattles our cage to execute His Judgement:

1.     Silent: God is not silent to injustice, prejudice and bigotry. Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither (Psalm 37:1-2). God is not silent. He is just patient and is waiting for the rebellious to repent.

2.     Seditious: God is not blinded to the seditious slanderous. The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked (Psalm 37:12-13a). When we fight our battles on our knees like Daniel, the seditious will fall into the pit that they dug for us.

  1. Signature: God’s signature is on His people and His property. The crook, the criminal and the crude who violate God’s children will be judged. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap (Galatians 6:7).

God will rattle the cage of the rebellious and will pull the rug under their feet.

Daniel 5:6 His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are a righteous judge. Help me to wait for you to rattle the cage of the unrighteous.  Amen.
