19 July 2022 – Spiritual Alignment – Part 3

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus explained “spiritual alignment” with a vivid metaphor, ‘light”. Jesus said, when our path is darkened by confusion, to look to Him for direction. Human mind is dimmed by temptation, deception, and transgression. Our soul is like a light bulb that shines brighter as the voltage increases. The delay in low voltage LED lights is caused by the LED (‘light-emitting diode’) transformer. A transformed mind is like the transformer that receives the electric energy and illuminates the soul.

As we have our eyes focused on Jesus, (the light of the world), our mind, emotions, and intellect will turn from low voltage to high voltage LED lights. Engaging in the deeds of darkness will misalign and fuse the light in our soul. “Deeds of Darkness” can be defined as a ‘thought, word or deed’ that we will not be proud of if exposed. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. (Ephesians 5:12-13). Hence light aligns us both metaphorically and literally in the natural as well as in the spiritual to righteousness, honesty, and purity.

The decision to follow Jesus is like turning on the high voltage LED light. The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day (Proverbs 4:18). The path of the integrous will be like the light of the noonday sun that leaves no shadow or shady patches. Their life will be like an open book for people to read, receive and reflect. The Apostle Paul boldly said, Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1), as he was radiating the light of Jesus.

Illuminated soul will be spiritually aligned:

  1. Envy: Most times the undercurrent of brawling, fighting, or slandering is envy.  You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? (1 Corinthians 3:3).  Expose envy, comparison, ingratitude, anger, or frustration to the light. When we bring our secret conundrum under the floodlight of the scripture, they will flee.
  1. Enticement: A sense of urgency that pushes us into impulsive buying, commitment or decision making is maneuvered by enticement. ‘We buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like.’ – Dave Ramsey. Bring it under the light to decipher the ‘wants’ from the ‘needs’.
  1. Elude: Evading or eluding to do or say what is right is a sin. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them (James 4:17). Inaction to stand for righteousness and truth is as evil as willful transgression.

Let the light of truth, integrity, and honesty shine brightly in and through us.

Ephesians 5:11 Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, may my life be bright and transparent like the noonday sun and shine the God colours in the dark world. Amen.
