Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
‘Carinae Nebula’ is the largest star-forming solar nursery in our Milky-way galaxy. It is located 7,500 light-years away from earth and covers a distance of over 300 light-years. A light-year is the distance light travels in one earth year. One light-year is about 6 trillion miles (9 trillion km). NASA’s latest James Webb space telescope has revealed the stunning landscape of the ‘Carinae Nebula’. In this expanse of the cosmos’s great stellar nurseries ‘Carinae Nebula’, stars are born, they age and die. James Webb is able to give us stunning details of young stars being born and emitting enormous amounts of energy. The images contain thousands of galaxies in one photograph yet, the Guardian reported that Webb’s image is only a tiny sliver of the vast universe,approximately the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length!
A tiny slice of the splendid starry sky has caused a surge of ecstatic amazement among the astrophysicists and scientists of NASA. The extent of the hosts of heaven that the Great Big Mighty God has created is yet to be discovered. The Lord God has a name for each one of these heavenly bodies. Not one dims or dies before its time or without the Lord permitting.When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place (Psalm 8:3). The twinkle-twinkle little stars that glimmer at night are humongous luminous gas balls in the sky that have been meticulously handpicked and arranged by the Almighty God. How Great is our God!
This great God who decorates the universe with sparkly constellations is our Fortress, Friend, and Father:
- Fortress: It is discombobulating to comprehend that this God who flung the universe into being is our support and our stronghold. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust (Psalm 91:2). The same powerful hand that holds the stars in its place is our protector and our fortress.
- Friend: It is beyond human understanding that this great God calls us His friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you (John 15:14). The qualification to be the friend of the God of the universe is ‘obedience’. God reveals His secrets to the ‘obedient-simple’and not to the ‘arrogant-scholar’.
- Father: It is humbling to call the Creator God of the implausible imperial cosmos our Father. ‘Abba’ in Aramaic is ‘Father’ or ‘Daddy’. It is an intimate usage and not a formal terminology to address fathers. The King of Kings receives us as His children, and we can boldly address Him as ‘abba’ or ‘daddy’.
How great is our God who calls the ginormous luminants and starry hosts by name!
Psalm 147:4 He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.
Prayer: Magnificent Father, I am overwhelmed that the same hands that spun the heavenly hosts wraps around me. Great are you Lord. Amen.
