06 August 2022 – How Great is Our God – Part 7

Psalm 93:1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength.

The nucleus of heaven is the throne of God. The hosts of heaven converge towards the glorious throne of God. The Almighty God is sovereign, and He rules over the vast expanse of space, the constellations and of course the earth we live in. The throne of God is never vacant. He never takes a vacation. “Your throne shall be established forever.” (1 Samuel 7:16).  ‘Sov’ means ‘over or above’ and reign is to rule.  God is sovereign over the past, present, and future.

Everyone who had a glimpse of the glory of heaven trembled and fell on their knees at the glance of the splendid, sublime throne of God. When Prophet Isaiah saw the Lord high and exalted seated on the throne,he was terrified at the power that emanated from His dominion. The songs of adoration that reverberated in the presence of the Holy One shook the doorposts and thresholds and filled the temple with smoke. At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke (Isaiah 6:4). Until Isaiah peeked into heaven, he was mourning for the death of the successful king, King Uzziah. The mourning turned into adulation in seconds when he saw the ‘Ruler of the Universe’. Rumination on the sovereignty of God will drown our anxiety and apprehensions. Our biggest problems will diminish into a minuscule mite in the presence of the All-Mighty God.

It is calming when we comprehend that the All-Mighty God is in absolute control of our challenges and crisis. “The sovereignty of God is a sweet pillow that you can lay your head at night. It is a beautiful truth not only that God is in control over all but is also working everything out — the good and the bad — for your good, and his glory” – Charles Spurgeon.  The all-powerful, all-knowing God has his fingerprints over our crucible circumstances!

As we meditate on the greatness of God, we can only prostrate in gratitude and worship:

  1. Adoration: The posture of adoration could be on bended knees or outstretched hands. Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker (Psalm 95:6). ‘The knowledge of supremacy’ of the All-Powerful God will dissipate the fear of man and soak us in the reverential fear of God.
  1. Admiration:The fulcrum of our faith must be hinged on the glory and the authority of God. How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you (Psalm 66:3).The enemy cannot miss His eyes and no slithering demon is beyond His reach. Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side (Psalm 97:3).
  1. Adulation:“A due apprehension of God’s sovereignty promotes the spirit of worship” – Arthur W. Pink. Admiration and adoration of the sovereignty of God will keep us in perpetual adulation.

Let us worship, “Then sings my soul my Saviour God to thee, How Great Thou Art”.

Jeremiah 32:17“Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”

Prayer: Sovereign Lord, you are supreme over the universe, reign and rule over my life.Amen.
