31 August 2022 – Be Still – Part 4

Mark 4:39-40 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Jesus reproached the ghastly storm that was trying to topple the boat that He and His disciples were in. Many are afraid to embark on their God-given assignment or pray bold prayers, as brave petitions attract the enemy. There are people who are intimidated by the fierce opposition from the demonic force when they commence a journey in a God ordained trajectory. Resistance from the enemy must be expected throughout our journey on the earth. Courageously venturing into the unfamiliar territories will unveil the treasures hidden in darkness. However, as we traverse along, we must know our authority and the power of the words of our mouth.  Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves to ‘be still’ and they sheepishly died down but then Jesus turned around and reprimanded His disciples. He scolded them for not exercising the authority that they had on nature and norms of the world.

The world is drowned with “new norms” after COVID-19. Social etiquette, masks, travel restrictions, economic disruptions and financial slump have insinuated fear in the society. What is suggested as “social-safety-norms” are also the “fear-factors” and “trauma-triggers”. The effect of the pandemic is expected to continue until 2025! However, if we react like the rest of the world and if we cower and cringe in the middle of a crisis, we have not understood our authority or our position as children of God. We have the authority to still the storms.

Speak to the storm and command it to ‘be still’:

1.     Understand: It is important to understand our authority to accomplish the portfolio as the sons and daughters of the King of Kings. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom (Deuteronomy 28:13b). Obedience to God’s word endows us with authority over the circumstances. We will not be dragged by the pandemic or economic pressures but will reverse its effect on us and be above its influences. Understand your authority.

2.     Undergird: Bolster the words of your mouth with the foundation of faith. Speak God’s Word and believe God’s word to be fulfilled in your life. Undergird your authority with faith.

3.     Utter: Speak what you believe even before you feel or see the victory. Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them (Mark 11:23).  Don’t wait for your feelings. Feelings with catch-up as we start confessing and uttering His Word boldly.  Utter God’s Word boldly.

Reverse the new socio-economic norms with the substratum of God’s Word and authority.

Isaiah 45:11 Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.

Prayer: Father God, help me to delight your heart by authoritatively speaking your Word in faith to calm the storms. Amen.
