Matthew 27:29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head.
Bible Scholars have come to a consensus that the thorns from Ziziphus spina-christi, a common tree in the Middle East, was platted and placed on the head of Jesus. It is estimated that about sixty to seventy spiky thorns pierced His head. Jesus took the poisonous prickles on His infallible head just to break the hold of curses and demonic oppression over our lives. The Greek botanist, Theophrastus, makes a very interesting remark on Ziziphus spina-christi. He says that the fruit of this prickly cedar is sweet! “If one pours wine over it, they say that it becomes sweeter and that it makes the wine sweeter”. Likewise, the blood that surged out of the head of Jesus turns all the bitterness from the bloodline curses into blessings. Apply the blood that dripped from the prickles over bondages, brokenness and bitterness and be set free.
There was another wound that exterminated curses caused by sin and disobedience. One of the soldiers stuck his spear into Jesus’ side, and blood and water came out (John 19:34). In the Old Testament, the ‘test to fidelity in a marriage’ was to make the woman drink bitter cursed water. When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse (Numbers 5:27). Every willful and arrogant sin stomachs curses that cause unfruitfulness. Water and blood gushed from the side of Jesus. ‘The blood’ from His side sets us free from the curses of stubborn willful sins and ‘the water,’ (which is the Word of God), sanctifies and transforms us to His likeness. One drop of blood of Jesus is more powerful than the most hideous curses, witchcraft and sorcery.
The Blood of Jesus releases us from curses:
1. Cause: Apply the trickling blood from the thorns on the head of Jesus on the bloodline curses. Even if the cause of the bloodline curse is not identifiable, the blood will release it and set us free. If the cause is from a known adamant and arrogant disobedience, repent, fast, pray and apply the blood from the side of Jesus over the sin. There is a cure for both known and unknown causes and curses.
2. Curse: A curse could be from an envious evil source, sorcery or spell. A curse uttered without cause shall come upon a man (Proverbs 26:2). Witchcraft cannot have an effect unless there is a loophole in our lives. Identify the foothold that the demonic forces are slithering through and fortify your spiritual life. Draw a bloodline around everything that belongs to you.
3. Consequences: We don’t have to stomach the consequences of the sinful past life. The side of Jesus was pierced so that we might be set free. Apply the blood from the pierced side of Jesus over the detestable disobedience, curses and consequences.
The blood of Jesus releases us from the curses and consequences of sins.
Deuteronomy 23:5 Yet the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam, and the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you.
Prayer: Jesus my Deliverer, I apply your precious blood that dripped from the thorns on your head and the blood that flowed from your side over the bloodline curses and my wistful wickedness. Amen
