02 November 2022 – What is Faith? – Part 4

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Faith is the divine currency that is exchanged for the divine favour of God. The value of the currency of a nation would depend on the demand and supply. Supply shortage, interest rates, trade policies, economic health and political stability of a country would determine the value of the currency. Foreign exchange or forex market is the largest financial market in the world with a daily volume of over $6.6 trillion USD. However, the transactions in the faith market are far more precious and valuable than the forex market.

The value of the currency of faith appreciates or depreciates by our obedience or defiance. Disobedience devalues the currency of faith. The Lord God had instructed Israel over and over again not to bow down to the idols and heathen gods of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites who lived in the Promised Land. However, they took their daughters in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods (Judges 3:6). The Israelites devalued the divine currency of faith by prostituting with pagan gods. As faith was devalued, favour of God diminished. The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord; they forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs (Judges 3:7) and they were defeated by their enemies and were subjected to brutal oppression.

All of us are born with a head start deposit of faith. Our choices, decisions and actions will either increase the value or deplete the value of faith. Investing our thoughts and time into fruitful connections, energizing conversations, information, podcasts and entertainment will bolster our faith and appreciate its value.

Faith is our divine currency:

1.     Decisions: The government policies, political stability and reserve bank publications have a huge impact on the value of the currency of a country. Likewise, the principles, morals and standards that we set for ourselves will aggrandize or degrade our faith. The Bible is our standard in any situation and scenario.

2.     Demography: The reputation and influence of the demography that we find ourselves in, will increase or decrease faith. If we associate with people and places where the Lord is not honoured and the Word of God is not obeyed, we will also soon be sucked into wrong practices. We are called to be in the world but not of the world.

3.     Deception: The forex market is sporadic and highly volatile due to the spurious misinformation that spreads like wildfire causing huge financial loss. Similarly, misinformation or misconception of Biblical truth can diminish faith. God is love; He does not condemn us but He will not condone sin. The misconception to compromise on homosexuality and infidelity on the basis of love are demonic deceptions. They are misleading faith-destructive deceptions.

Faith is our divine currency that exchanges God’s favour and blessings.

James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Prayer: Father God, give me the wisdom to secure, invest and multiply the divine faith-deposit in me. Teach me the divine transactions of exchanging faith with your favour.  Amen
