04 November 2022 – What is Faith? – Part 6

Matthew 15:28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed at once.

Faith is a force that transcends from the natural into the supernatural to release the desired results. Jesus was in Tyre and Sidon (a gentile territory) when a Greek-Syrophoenician woman came pleading for the healing of her demon possessed daughter. Jesus, in order to test her, gave her a condescending reply.  He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord; but please help, for even the dogs feed on the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” (Matthew 15-26-27). Jesus commended this woman for her incredible faith and sent her with the assurance of healing. An important fact to note is that the child was not with the mother. The imploring mother did not ask Jesus for any signs or confirmations of healing. Hence, Jesus praised her faith as “Great Faith”.

In the Canaanite and Mesopotamian practice temple prostitution was a common practice and a girl tormented by impure spirits would be sucked into it. They believed that immorality practiced in the Baal temples brought fertility. Asherah was the female deity and the concubine of Baal. The Baal temples played harlotry by using women in the society as Asherah while the temple priests represented Baal. This child would have been a victim to the cultic prostitution if the mother had not persistently petitioned for her healing. The great faith in the heart of the mother became the force that drove out the demons from her daughter. The great faith of the mother broke the cultural, religious and socio-economic barriers.

Faith is the power that works within us. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20). Physics defines force as “The push or pull on an object with mass causes it to change its velocity”. Force is an influence that can change the motion of an object; likewise, faith is the power that can change the motion, direction and acceleration of the answers from heaven.

Faith is a force that transcends from the terrestrial to the celestial:

1.     Action: Force can change the velocity of an object. It is the push or pull on a mass. Likewise, faith is the force that initiates actions on the promises of God. Faith surpasses all human limitations and rises above the physical barriers. The velocity/speed of this faith would be determined by the trust in the Almighty God. ‘Faith actions answers’.

2.     Motion: Faith like force causes movement and motion in the supernatural realm. The faith of the woman moved the heart of Jesus, similarly our faith in His Word will move His power and authority to manifest.

3.     Friction: Friction is the force that resists motion. Likewise fear resists faith and movement of the heavenly into the earthly.

Faith is the force that barrages through the dark layer of demonic forces and allows the power of God to invade into our life.

Matthew 15:28b And her daughter was healed at once.

Prayer: Jesus, you are the author of faith. Help my faith to grow bold and strong and bring implausible divine breakthroughs. Amen
