10 November 2022 – The Gift of Imagination –Part 5

Genesis 15:5 “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”

“We cannot create what we can’t imagine.” — Lucille Clifton

God speaks to us through our eyes of imagination. He changes the image in our inner man before He can perform the miracle. Changing the imagination of the heart invigorates faith. The Lord God brought the senior citizen Abraham out of his tent to gaze into the sky and made him count the stars. Abraham was a businessman. He knew his numbers well. So, God spoke to him in the language that he understood best and made him imagine his posterity as numerous as the stars of the sky or the sand of the seas. When Abraham was downtrodden in his faith during the day, the grains of sand reminded him that God will be faithful to His Word. When he was confused at night, the stars reminded him that God was able to do the impossible. He told himself, ‘my generation will become a great nation’.

The stars and the sand changed the imagination of Abraham. He went stargazing at night and kicked the sand under his feet just to remind himself of the astounding promises of God. He did this for 25 years to become the Father of Faith!

The Lord God changes the images and our imaginations with His promises. Though her land is a desert, I will make it a garden, like the garden I planted in Eden. Joy and gladness will be there, and songs of praise and thanks to me (Isaiah 51:3). Use post-it notes and pop-up messages to change the imagination. We cannot inherit the miracle without first changing the image in our head.

The gift of imagination sets the momentum for the miracle:

1.     Stars: Walking out into the balcony every night just to gaze into the sky reminds us the greatness of our God. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands (Psalm 19:1). The stars of the sky remind us that the God who holds the galaxies together will work all things together for our good.

2.     Sand: A handful of sand contains about 10,000 grains of sand! There are over 8,810 promises in the Bible. All we have to do is just take one promise and print the promise in our mind. It takes only one granule to change our imagination.

3.     Satellite Telephone: We check our cell-phones or mobile phones more often than we look up into the sky or look down at the sand in the ground. As the stars and sand were a reminder to Abraham, the satellite phone, tablet or laptop that we carry should be the prompters of the promises of God to us. Have reminders and popup messages of the promises and Bible verses on your phone to change the image in your mind.

We cannot create until we first imagine.

Genesis 12:2 I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, give me the spiritual stamina to defeat the pejorative images of myself and help me to see your promises through the eyes of imagination. Amen
