16 November 2022 – Fear – Part 4

Jonah 2:5 The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.

As the world descends into turmoil God commands bible believers to ‘Fear not’. – Nady Samaan

Fear is a tormenting spirit from the pit of hell. It is not just chemical reactions in the brain activating the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal-cortical system. It is a demonic spirit. In righteousness shall you be established: you shall be far from oppression; for you shall not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near you (Isaiah 54:14). We have promises in the Bible to stand against this spirit – ‘for it shall not come near you’ and if it tries to attack our mind and body, we have the authority to drive out the terrorizing spirit of fear. This does not mean as children of God that we will never experience fear. Fear is a very real belaboring spirit but we must nip it in the bud. If we entertain it we will be engulfed by dread and despondency.

Jonah was adamant that he will not accomplish his God-given assignment and preach to the Assyrian gentiles. He boldly told the sailors to throw him into the raging sea but as he sank into the depths, the dread of death gripped him. He prayed, petitioned and made vows to the Lord and the Lord sent a big fish to transport Jonah to his destination. Spirit of fear has siblings that follow it. The spirit of sorrow, frustration, depression, fury, low self-esteem, suicide and death will creep in one by one. These are demonic spirits that suffocate faith. Fear will push us to an extent when we will have no drive to live. So, drive out the spirit of fear when attacked.

The signs, causes and deliverance from the spirit of fear:

1.     Pitiful: Spirit of fear pushes us into sorrowful and melancholic spirit. When we feel that God does not care and that we are the most miserable beings on earth, remember you are under attack. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions (Ezekiel 2:7). The sting of the scorpion is on its back. The mishaps and mistakes of the past will sting us like scorpions and incarcerate us in fear if we entertain it. Take authority and drive out the spirit of fear that causes sadness.

2.     Plunder: Spirit of fear is a pillaging thief that plunders our peace and joy. “Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” (Psalm 51:12). When peace is plundered the strength to fight back is lost. Fear phobias will make faith and hope for the future flail. Drive out the spirit of fear.

3.     Precarious: Spirit of fear will dislodge us from faith and make us insecure and unreliable. This demonic spirit attacks us to make our faith shaky. Fear plants the weed of doubt which will soon take over the garden of faith. Fear makes us unstable and precarious. Expel the spirit of fear.

Spirit of fear is a demonic spirit from the pit of hell.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, teach me to use authority to expel the spirit of fear and overcome qualm, depressing and demeaning thoughts.  Amen
