29 November 2022 – Jesus – Part 3

John 10:27 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Jesus is our protector and the preserver of our faith. When we follow Him like a sheep, there is a canopy of divine protection over our soul. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me (John 10:26). Sheep are emotionally complex and follow the leader they trust. They have flocking instincts and very strong family bonds. Kim and Chuck Goodling from Vermont Grand View Farm say that a set of twins (ram and ewe) were reunited after two years. They recognized each other immediately and they stood nose to nose for 30 minutes! Sheep are generally docile and non-aggressive creatures. Jesus is our shepherd and He will be our protector when we follow Him like the sheep.

We will never see a sheep attacking each other. Sheep have no teeth in the front part of the upper jaw. To follow Jesus would require a sober mind and a controlled tongue. There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men (Proverbs 30:14). Those who have sharp tongues, devouring teeth and stinging talk do not follow the Master; they listen to their own instincts. Our tongue testifies whom we follow. When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats (1 Peter 2:23). Jesus is the epitome of patience. Following the footsteps of our Good Shepherd Jesus will keep us in divine direction and protection.

No lethal demon in hell or virulent man on earth can snatch our salvation, faith, joy and purpose as long as we are like sheep that follow the Good Shepherd Jesus.

Jesus is our protector and preserver:

1.     Agitated: A sheep will become highly-agitated if it is separated from the shepherd and rest of the flock. Being in constant fellowship with the Master reinforces our confidence in our Good Shepherd. Separation from God would include prayerlessness and isolation from godly fellowships. We will be attacked by the demonic realm when we wander alone. So, stay in fellowship and stay within the flock of Christ.

2.     Aggressive: Sheep are normally very docile but become aggressive when they are threatened by loud noise. When threatened by reports, people or circumstances, do not become angry with God. Remain in me, and I will remain in you (John 15:4). Trust Him even in the dark dangerous valley. Let not the noise of the world about the downward financial slump or a doctor’s report intimidate you. Be still even when threatened.

3.     Astringent: There is no animosity or biting among sheep. There is no record of a sheep attacking its shepherd. Never get bitter with God. Jesus the good shepherd will shut doors that are dangerous and will lead us through rough valleys into the green pastures and still waters. Trust, obey and follow to remain under the protection of the Divine Master.

No one can snatch us away from His hands as long as we follow Him like a sheep.

John 10:29b No one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

Prayer: Jesus my Good Shepherd, help me to tune-in to listen to your voice and follow you like a sheep.  Amen
