25 December 2022 – Festive Fiesta – Part 3

Mark 4:16 “The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

Christmas is not a festival of lights but a fiesta to celebrate the reentry of the Light of the World. God’s first and foremost creation was light. However, the world was shaded by the darkness of sin. The birth of Jesus shattered through the layers of gloom, and brought light into the hearts of men. And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them (Luke 2:9). The glory of the Lord has brought light both metaphorically and figuratively.  The arrival of Jesus brightens our inner being. Christmas is the day on which Jesus entered our hearts and brightened our inner man. Every time His light shines brightly in and through us we celebrate Christmas. And today (25/12/2022) is the day of commemoration of the arrival of the Light of the World.

A ray of light shatters the thick cloud of darkness. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:5). God created light on day-1 but created the sun, moon and stars only on day-4. Scientists today cannot explain the mysteries around where the first light came from. The socalled ‘Big-Bang theory’ does not support the formation of light as the scientists and astronomers have never actually seen the formation of a new star. The Light of the Word, Jesus, pierced through the darkness and in Him and through Him all things were created. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible (Colossians 1:16). Hence Christmas is a fiesta to rejoice the return of the King to repossess and recover the earth and humanity from the clutches of sin and deadly darkness.

Celebrate the Light of the World:

1.     Blow: Our celebration should batter the kingdom of darkness. On the contrary, Christmas has been commercialized with decorations, drinks and dancing. Everything we do to celebrate Christmas must have one focal point – to accentuate the Light of the World.  See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you (Isaiah 60:2). Christ must shine ever so brightly that people in darkness will see the Light of Christ shining through us.

2.     Bright: Our Christmas celebration must brighten the lives of those around us. Moses was clothed with the brightness/glory of the Lord that people could not see him with naked eyes. His face shone bright with godly glory (Exodus 34:35). The brightness, purity and love that shine in our hearts must attract people in darkness to us. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn (Isaiah 60:3).

3.     Bells: Our Christmas celebrations are the bells that share the good news of the gospel. Jingle bells are not a reminder of Santa Clause but the reverberation of hope and happiness to humanity.

Christmas is a fiesta to celebrate the Light of the World. Merry Christmas!

Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.”

Prayer:  Light of the World, shine ever so brightly in our lives that people darkened by sin will see Your bright light shining through us. Amen
