19 January 2022 – Fruitfulness – Part 5

Gen. 1:28 “God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth’.

To be fruitful is a command not just a blessing. The very first instruction that was given to mankind was to be fruitful and multiply. Adam and Eve operated in supernatural wisdom, strength and direction before sin entered their lives. The Garden of Eden was a ‘glory land’. There was no way a man and his wife could have tended a huge orchard and garden with acres and acres of all kinds of trees and vegetables without electrical gadgets, chainsaws and lawnmowers. Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground (Genesis 2:8-9b). By the time he worked on a veggie patch in one corner of the garden the rest of the garden would have overgrown. Adam and Eve worked on the garden and took care of it with divine enablement. The Lord God wanted them to be fruitful and multiply generations who would also operate in the same supernatural power but sin sabotaged and stole the divine empowerment from humanity.

The New Testament believers receive the same supernatural enablement through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor (Isaiah 55:5b). The anointing or the power of the Holy Spirit makes us fruitful. Without supernatural enablement, all our efforts can yield only worldly results and have no eternal impact. For example we can build a house but only the supernatural love, compassion and forgiveness can make it a home. We can build a thriving business but the wealth can be transferred into heaven only through divine investment and selfless service. The power of the Holy Spirit makes us exponentially fruitful.

Faithfulness is a command:

1.     Yearn: Fruitfulness starts with a desire to bring forth lasting fruits. Our desire must shift from making money to creating eternal wealth; from constructing buildings to influencing people; from increasing financially to growing spiritually. Yearning for the supernatural strength of the Holy Spirit will make you and me powerful, fruitful and useful.

2.     Yoke: Fruitfulness increases when the yoke is broken. The yoke of sin, anger, animosity, unforgiveness, bitterness, hatred, envy are like weeds that destroy growth. Trees that are entangled by weeds and overgrown grass lose the flavour in their fruits.  The yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil (Isaiah 10:27b). The power of anointing will break the yoke that restrains and restricts our growth.

3.     Yield: Finally, fruitfulness is a result of yielding to the plan of the Holy Spirit. Adam lost his position in the Garden of Eden as he wandered away from the plan of the Lord. Yielding to the pruning, trimming and training of the Holy Spirit makes us fruitful.

Anointing of the Holy Spirit is the supernatural enablement that makes us fruitful.

Genesis 1:28 Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion.

Prayer:  Father God, I don’t want to live a mediocre life. I yearn and yield to become fruitful. Break every yoke that is making me futile and unfruitful. Amen
