16 February 2023 – Battle Injuries – Part 5

1 Samuel 17:49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.

A hard blow to the forehead can be fatal as it can shake the brain inside our skull causing bruises, broken blood vessels or nerve damage. Banging the head or hitting the forehead is very bad for the brain. There are three instances mentioned in the Bible of skull or forehead injuries which killed the enemy. But Jael, Heber’s wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died (Judges 4:21). When the enemy was asleep, Jael who was a wise woman pinned him to the ground with a tent peg. In another instance, a wicked man’s end came from a woman who threw a millstone crushing his skull. And a certain woman threw an upper millstone on Abimelech’s head and crushed his skull (Judges 9:53). Most millstones weighed about 100 pounds, so the woman would have executed her brilliant idea with a bunch of men who co-operated with her. David the ruddy shepherd boy struck the ginormous giant twice his size with a slingshot and a stone, on his forehead and killed him.

A skilled soldier will look for the exposed area of the opponent. The only exposed area in Goliath was the forehead (vs 5) and David went for it. Ironically, Goliath was messing the minds of the Israelite army and brainwashing them that they were puny wimps. However, David could not be fooled as he knew that he was backed with the army of heavenly hosts. For the LORD your God is He that goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory. (Deuteronomy 20:4). One fling brought the felon down.

Injure the enemy on his forehead:

1. Forehead: The enemy will try to mess our mind with fear, anger and revenge. When we are instigated to react in frustration and hate, exercise patience. A calm response to an irritating question is like shooting a smooth stone at the forehead of the enemy. Defeat the spirit of rage with the smooth stone of patience.

2. Fatal: One fatal blow is more than enough to bring the giant down. David had 5 stones but he used only one. A qualm will turn into fear, then into a humungous ball of terror until it grips and gobbles our peace. Hurl back God’s promises and strike the demons of doubt and fear with a fatal blow.

3. Facedown: To bring the enemy facedown is the greatest victory one can have. We can and must bring the attacking spirits facedown with the stones of faith.

Hit the nail on the forehead of the intimidating demons; don’t let the enemy mess your head.

1 Samuel 17:45b I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

Prayer: Abba Father, make me a skilled soldier to strike and injure the mocking enemy on his head. May the insinuations and insults of the demonic voices never mess my head. Amen
