10 March 2023 – The Face of God – Part 6

Exodus 14:24 During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion.

The Lord looked down and the enemy was thrown into confusion. He jammed the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt” (vs 25). The Lord turned His face in anger and rolled His eyes on the pursuing Egyptian army who followed the Hebrew slaves into the Red Sea. The Lord God split the sea and paved a dry road for His people to cross over but the Pharaoh and his army barraged behind them. All that the Lord God did was He turned His face and looked down on them and threw them into confusion. Nothing can miss the eyes of the Lord. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” (1 Samuel 16:7) Even the plots and plans that are cooked against us in secret are not hidden from the Lord. We might be oblivious to the ploy but the Lord’s face is against the diabolical forces.

The last watch of the night is between 3am and 6am. An Israelite hoard was crossing the temporary bridge that the Lord had built for them in the middle of the night. They had their young and old with the children and cattle following Moses nervously. At the 11th hour the Lord looked down. His look jammed the wheels of the chariots and petrified the Egyptians. God fought against the enemies of Israel with His eyes.

God’s look will win our battles and overthrow our enemies:

1.      Confusion: God will confuse the enemies and demonic intruders who try to destroy our destiny. So David prayed, “LORD, turn Ahithophel’s counsel into foolishness.” (2 Samuel 15:31). God’s eyes are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayers. So, when we the righteous pray, God will turn the counsel of the crafty colleagues or conniving company into confusion.

2.      Collusion: The Lord God jammed the wheels of the chasing chariots. Chariots can travel 65 km per hour but an average human can walk 5 km per hour. The travelling hoard had their children and cattle so they would have been much slower. The Lord God made the chariots collide and crash to save His children. No force, power or demons can overrun God’s children.

3.      Conundrum: The Lord God puzzled the enemy that followed Israel. Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt”. Just follow the Master and witness the conundrum in the enemy’s camp.

The eyes of the Lord bring victory and the ears of the Lord are open to our prayers.

2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

Prayer: Compassionate Jesus, power flows from your eyes and defeats my enemies. May your eyes always be upon me.  Amen
