Habakkuk 3:4 “His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from His hand, where His power was hidden.”
There are more than 1200 references to ‘the hand of God’ in the Bible. The Lord has promised His unfailing presence to be with us always, then why is there a specific mention of the ‘Hand of the Lord’? ‘Hand of God’ references God’s approval, action and authentication for our petition or prayer. God’s power and authority are hidden in God’s hand. His presence is like the sunshine that brightens our path but the rays that flash from His hands defeats the enemy and brings great victory.
The good hand of the Lord came upon Ezra and commissioned him to action. For on the first of the first month he began to go up from Babylon; and on the first of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, because the good hand of his God was upon him (Ezra 7:9). The vision to rebuild the ruins of Jerusalem that was pelted and destroyed by the Babylonian enemy was given to Ezra, but it is the hand of the Lord that commissioned him into action. The powerful hand of God led Ezra and his team out of captivity into Jerusalem, to accomplish the vision.
The Lord is always with us but we need the mighty hand of the Lord to come upon us in order to go forward in our God-given vision and mission. The good hand of God supplied Ezra with provision to fulfill the vision to complete the building project. We need the assurance that we have the good hand of God before we commence a new journey. Wait for the hand of the Lord to unite with you before you start a business, get into a partnership, start building a family, or embark on a ministry journey.
The hand of the Lord:
1. Approval: The assurance that we are backed with the hand of the Lord is a sign of God’s approval. When the hand of the Lord is upon us, His favour will open closed doors, bring divine connections and unexpected promotions. The LORD’s right hand is lifted high; the LORD’s right hand has done mighty things! (Psalm 118:16). Hand of the Lord is a sign of God’s approval in our journey.
2. Action: The hand of the Lord plunges us into action. Vision will come to fruition and mission to completion when the hand of the Lord is united with our efforts.
3. Authentication: Repeated failure or a pattern of setback indicates the interference of an evil arm. So My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations (Ezekiel 13:9). Sorcerers and diviners are not devising plans against God’s children but are fighting against the hand of the Lord. The good hand of God authenticates our efforts and breaks the evil arm.
The good hand of the Lord is the force behind our success, protection and progress.
Ezra 7:28 “And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me.”
Prayer: Dear Lord my Father, may your hand be upon me that I may prosper in all my ways. Amen.
