16 July 2023 – Spiritual Warfare – Part 1

Ephesians 6:12 “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world.”

“Spiritual warfare is very real. There is a furious, fierce, and ferocious battle raging in the realm of the spirit between the forces of God and the forces of evil. Warfare happens every day, all the time. Whether you believe it or not, you are in a battlefield. You are in warfare.” – Pedro Okoro

“Spiritual Warfare” is not a Christian jargon or a church cliché.  It is the reality that many don’t like to accept. The unseen world is more real than the real world. Everything that we think, say and do in the natural world has a cascading repercussion in the spiritual world. There is no quiet time in hell. Hell is full of greedy bloodthirsty hyenas that are waiting to devour anyone who slacks, slips and sins. Mercy is absent, and kindness is alien to the demons. They wait to attack, teardown and ravage anyone who chooses right over wrong, and purity over profanity. Living right is a spiritual battle.

However, we have authority over anything that comes against us. Jesus has stripped the devil of all his authority on the cross. The devil has been disarmed. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross (Colossians 2:15). Yet, the diabolical world intrudes into our territory as we are ignorant of our rights, privileges and authority over them. We need not be afraid of the devil. The devil trembles as soon as a prayer warrior wakes up in the morning. Our time of prayer dislodges all the plot of the demons. Our praise and worship tortures the demons. This is why they do their best to make us skip our prayer time or at least shorten it by convincing us that our body needs rest and that we must sleep in a bit longer. The #1 key to spiritual warfare is prayer – Jacob Peterson. When we pray the battles in the unseen realm are won.

Prayer and Spiritual Warfare:

1.     Choose: Our determination to pray defeats the strategies of the demonic forces. Spiritual warfare is not praying in superfluous language or jargons. It is just simple words of trust and faith. As we reiterate the promises of God, the demonic ploys are stripped, tormented and destroyed.

2.     Clothe: Our spiritual clothing protects us from the demonic world. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Colossians 3:12). Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience would discombobulate the demons. They will become puzzled and perplexed at our reaction.

3.     Conquer: Our persistence in prayer disarms and conquers the diabolical army. Personal prayer disarms the demons, and family prayer builds a fence around us and our families.

The spiritual world takes no rest, breaks or holidays. The only way to overcome a spiritual attack is to persevere in prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:16 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me not to shy away from battles, but become fierce and fervent in prayer.  Amen.
