21 August 2023 – Blessed – Part 2

Psalm 32:1-2 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.

Guilt is not a bad emotion. Guilt leads to repentance however when we wallow in guilt, shame and low self-esteem it can damage our self-image and affect our social skills. Excessive or inappropriate guilt about things that we have done or (think we have done) can lead to depression, anguish and insomnia. Constant guilt tripping can cause lack of self-worth and symptoms of depression. However, the Bible says blessed is he who has been set free from guilt, condemnation and sin. Blessed is the man whose unbearable weight of sin has been cancelled and will never be recounted.

Forgiveness of sins is the mystery in Christendom that many intellectuals and scholars struggle to comprehend. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Yet after much confession we find ourselves battered with the ghastly wind of guilt and condemnation. Guilt is a trick and trap of hell to keep us sorrowful and self-defensive. Guilt is a throbbing pain inflicted on our soul to steal the joy and liberty in Christ Jesus. Blessedness is a state when the revelation of forgiveness in Christ is complete.

Three symptoms of those who are forgiven yet incited with guilt:

1.     Unworthy: Guilt leaves a deep sense of unworthiness to receive the blessings promised in the Bible. There is an imaginary line of discrimination in our mind that constantly tells us that we must stand far away from the blessings of the Lord. If the stain of sins is stigmatizing and making you feel unworthy, remember that God does not see our sin once we are forgiven. The righteous saints have washed their robes in the blood of the lamb and made them white, grace and forgiveness are seen (Revelations 7:14). There is no stain of sin or malice on us.

2.     Underprivileged: Guilt is the subtle voice that tells us that we can never have God’s best because we have failed. It is a lie and deception from the pit of hell. We don’t get to the back of the line once forgiven, but we are promoted to the front of the line to be blessed by the Lord.

3.     Undue: There are no limitations to receive from God. Guilt will whisper condemnation and restrict us from praying bold prayers. Guilt says ‘the best is for the rest’. Pray like sons/daughters and not like slaves. Walk boldly to the throne of God dressed in righteousness, not with guilt or shame. Undue blessings are for the unassuming.

No demon has the right to regurgitate what God has forgiven. There is no sin too big for God to forgive. We are blessed because God remembers our sins no more.

Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me to understand the mystery of forgiveness through you and enjoy the guilt-free blessed life. Amen.
