28 August 2023 – Eyes – Part 2

Deuteronomy 34:1&4 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan… “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.”

Mount Nebo is about 700 meters above sea level and the view from the summit of the Mount provides a panorama of the West Bank across the Jordan valley. The distance between Mount Nebo and Jordan is about 59.2 km. Moses was 120 years old when God gave him eyes like binoculars to see the Promised Land that the people of Israel (whom Moses loved as his own) were going to possess and enjoy. The eyes of Moses did not get dull or dim with age. Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone (vs 7). He could see every detail of the landscape of the land flowing with milk and honey. Moses lived in a time when there were no ophthalmologists, reading glasses or laser treatments for cataracts; however God gave him sharp eyesight to see the Promised Land.

The Lord gives deep insight into the future to those who walk closely with Him. Moses was a prophet and he not only had good eyesight, but also had very sharp spiritual eyes. Even before the people saw the Pharaoh chasing behind them and hemming them between the desert and the Red Sea the Lord had warned Moses about it. I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh (Exodus 14:4).

Physical eyes take in light from the world around us and sends visual information to our brain to form images but the spiritual eyes take the light from the heart to visualize the world around us.

The spiritual eyes of the faithful and integrous will be able to foresee far into the future. God opens, sharpens and brightens our spiritual eyes to see into the future and to prophesy over our generation. Sharp, spiritual eyes make us prophets.

Sharp, Spiritual Eyes:

1.     Faithful: The Lord will give sharp spiritual eyes to the faithful, and help them to foresee the things to come. The qualification of a prophet is faithfulness.

2.     Fidelity: Fidelity fine-tunes the focus of the spiritual lens of the integrous and the godly. Infidelity would make the spiritual eyes shady, hazy and dark.

3.     Forbearance: Moses was the perfect embodiment of patience. Even though he lost it once he never gave up on half a million grumbling, grouchy and grumpy people who constantly hammered him with complaints. Forbearance is the grinding tool that sharpens our spiritual eyes.

Sharp spiritual eyes see into the future. Fidelity, faithfulness and forbearance sharpen our spiritual eyes.

Amos 3:7 The Sovereign LORD never does anything without revealing his plan to his servants, the prophets.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, the Light of the World, help me to remain faithful, integrous and patient to have sharp and insightful spiritual eyes to see far into the future. Amen.
