17 September 2023 – Journey – Part 1

John 14:5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

We must know the destination to know the route that we have to take. Google Maps not only show us the way but will also give us the time it would take and inform us about traffic jams, incidents and even expected delays. Google Maps offers satellite imagery, aerial photography, street maps, 360° interactive panoramic views of streets, real-time traffic conditions, and route planning for traveling by foot, car, bike, air and public transportation. Google even has the feature of “Google Moon” which shows satellite images that allows us to explore the moon!

Jesus comforted the anxious hearts of the disciples just before He went to the cross, And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am (John 14:3). The minds of the disciples were focused on the earthly kingdom so they could not break through the earthly realm to see the heavenly kingdom. But Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (vs 6).

Life is a journey from the earth into eternity. Those who don’t understand that we are only in-transit on the earth think that their destination is the earth. On their deathbed they would come to a shocking realization that their destination is not the palatial home they have built and the wealth they have accumulated for retirement. No one ever said on their deathbed, ‘Gee, I wish I had spent more time alone with my computer’ – Danielle Berry. Even the coldhearted atheist scrambles to understand where they are going after death. Hence it is important to live with a heavenly perspective and journey on towards our heavenly destination.

Travel light towards your destination:

1.     Tangible: Everything that we see, touch and feel on earth cannot accompany us on our journey to heaven. Our mansions, money and the Mercedes Benz must be left behind on earth. We need food, clothing and shelter to live on earth but unfortunately cannot travel with the tangible wealth and riches to our final destination. Do not attach importance to earthly possessions. They are only ‘things’ that we will use and leave behind.

2.     Transit: This earth is a transit point where we board our next flight to the final destination. There are only two terminals – Heaven and Hell; Eternal Life or Eternal Death. The choices in life will decide which gate we will find ourselves on our deathbed. The gate we choose will send agents to pick us up and transport us to our final destination. Choose life.

3.     Transferrable: We have no check-in or hand luggage on the final journey. We even leave our bodies back on earth! The only transferrable wealth is holiness, goodness and kindness. The right choices that we make on earth convert into transferrable deposits in heaven.

Choosing to say, do and live like Jesus will reach us safely on heaven’s gate.

John 10:9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me to realize that I’m only in-transit on the earth and to accumulate transferrable treasure to my final home heaven. Amen.
