29 September 2023 – Tears – Part 6

Jeremiah 9:1 Oh, that my head were waters, And my eyes a fountain of tears, That I might weep day and night For the slain of the daughter of my people!

The latest study on crying says that the average duration of crying is about 8 minutes but crying for a few hours is considered normal. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), you make 15 to 30 gallons of tears every year. But overworking our tear glands will result in chronic tension headaches. Tears are essential to keep our eyes healthy and for clarity in our sight but most notably tears communicate our emotions.

Our tears are a powerful form of communication with the Lord. Our sincere tears have a voice in heaven. It is an expression of our grief and sorrow. Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book? (Psalm 56:8). Our sincere tears are recorded in God’s logbook of petitions. Tears are a prayer language that heaven understands. When grief overwhelms, our tears turn into our voice of petition in heaven. Anguished by the curse that was coming upon the disobedient nation of Israel, Prophet Jeremiah prayed ‘Oh that my head would be a water spring and my eyes would be a fountain of tears’. Jeremiah knew that his sorrow expressed as tears will be heard in heaven.

The Lord God saw the tears of King Hezekiah. “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you” (2 Kings 20:5). When Hezekiah knew that he was going to die he did not wail and howl publicly; he cried privately. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord…And Hezekiah wept bitterly (vs 2&3b). The Lord saw the tears of Hezekiah that only the wall could see! The tears of Hezekiah moved the compassion of God. The Lord God interjected Prophet Isaiah who had prophesied about his death a few minutes ago and sent him back with an answer to Hezekiah’s tears. I will add fifteen years to your life (vs 6a). The secret tears of Hezekiah extended his life by 15 years! God sees our tears in our private prayer closet.

Our secret tears can move the immovable mountain of debt. Our tears can raise a spiritual dead family member back to life. Tears can heal the sick, deliver the bound and unite the family that is in shambles. Our sincere secret tears are a powerful prayer language.

Sincere secret tears:

1.     Intercessory: Sincere tears and prayers intercede for the broken-hearted and the blistered. Hezekiah’s tears travelled to the throne room of heaven and negotiated for him. Your sincere tears have value. Don’t waste your tears by shedding it before people. Tears and petitions are intercessory prayers.

2.     Influential: Sincere tears and prayers are influential. They can even move the heart of God. If God saw the tears of Hezekiah, He will see your tears as well.

3.     Interactive: Sincere tears have a voice and are a powerful mode of divine communication. Our tears advocate for us in heaven.

Tears and prayers have a voice in heaven.

Isaiah 25:8 And the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces.
