06 October 2023 – Favour of God – Part 6

Psalm 90:17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.

The favour of God brings financial breakthroughs. As much as prosperity theory is incorrect, impoverished mentality is also wrong. To believe that God wants us to suffer lack, is wrong theology but it is also improper to seek the Lord for lavishness and luxurious lifestyles. Jesus spoke more about finance more than any other subject simply because ‘financial increase’ if mismanaged, will destroy the soul. When money starts ruling our lives it will outwit our time, values, believes and ultimately destroy our character. Hence the Lord God fine-tunes our mind to manage money before flooding us with financial breakthroughs.

The favour of God brought an increase in the life of Jacob. Jacob worked for his maternal uncle Laban for 20 years. The first 14 years he worked to marry his daughters. Then he continued working for Laban probably for minimum wage. Jacob said to his wives, your father has cheated me by changing my wages ten times. However, God has not allowed him to harm me (Jacob 31:7). Jacob negotiated his wages with his employer Laban and the Lord blessed him for his integrity. The man grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and female and male servants, and camels and donkeys (Genesis 30:43). The Lord blessed him, multiplied his livestock and increased his wealth. The principles that we learn from Jacob for financial favour are honesty, innovation and hard work.

Favour of God on our finances:

1.     IntegrityHonesty in words and integrity in deeds unfold financial favour. Our dealings with money will reveal who we really are. Jacob was able to boldly testify, And my honesty will testify for me in the future (Genesis 30:33a). God honoured Jacob’s honesty with another man’s livestock and gave him a large increase of his own. When we are honest with our time, property and service to our employers, the favour of God will bring incredible increases.

2.     Innovation: Innovative thinking will make us work smarter. Don’t work to complete the task, work to excel. An excellent spirit attracts financial favour. It was Jacob’s innovative idea that made him extremely prosperous. Jacob placed white stripes of tree barks in the water troughs where the healthy flock mated. Ask the Holy Spirit for innovative ideas to improve your output at work.

3.     Increase: Become a blessing to your employer by giving your best service to build the business of your employer. Laban said to him, “Please stay, if I have found favor in your eyes, for I have learned by experience that the LORD has blessed me for your sake.” (Genesis 30:27). God blessed Laban because of Jacob but his employer deprived him of the increment or bonus for his hard work. However, the Lord blessed Jacob and repaid him for all the years he was cheated by Laban.

Honesty, innovation and hard work are the foundations of financial favour.

Genesis 32:10b When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick. Now my household fills two large camps!

Prayer: Father God, teach me the principles behind financial favour. Keep me honest, innovative and hardworking. Amen.
