25 October 2023 – Prayer – Part 4

Mark 11:24-25 “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

More work is done on earth through prayer than work itself – Myles Munroe

Prayer is the key to access the treasures of heaven. The Bahamian pastor, evangelist, author, avid writer and international leadership consultant Myles Munroe after 47 years of walking faithfully with the Lord says, “More work is done by prayer than work itself”. Prayer is not a routine or repetitive narration but the key to access the divine blessings.

Jesus taught an important principle about the power of prayer just a few days before His death – “Have faith in God,” (vs 22). In other words, “understand the heart of God”. If we understand the mind of God, unite our hearts with His heartbeat and His plan our prayers will be instantly answered. Jesus cursed the fig tree and it withered from the root, the very next day. The disciples were astonished at the reaction of nature to the words of Jesus but Jesus was teaching them a deep truth about the power of prayer. A fig tree with leaves normally has fruits. The fig tree that Jesus cursed had leaves but no fruit. Jesus cursed it as it metaphorically referred to “hypocrites”. God hates hypocrisy. Therefore the Lord said: “These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me” (Isaiah 29:13).  Jesus did not react impetuously. The Words of Jesus exhibited the mind of God.

So, when we pray we must spend time to understand God’s perspective about the problem, peril or perturbation. Prayer is seeking the will of God and speaking His thoughts over the concern/care/crisis. Prayer is – “understanding the mind of God, uniting with the heartbeat of God and executing the will/plan of God on earth as it is in heaven”.

The secret of prayer:

1.     Understand: When we sit silently in God’s presence, and quieten our emotions before Him, we will understand His heartbeat. Fury and frustration in an issue will die down and God’s mind will be revealed. Praying with understanding will be answered. For example, when we are hurt by a friend, our list of complaints will shut the door to heaven but surrendering the pain will endow us with the supernatural power to forgive. Prayer will help us to follow the footsteps of Jesus.

2.     Unite: A pure, unfiltered and simple heart will be able to see God and unite with Him. Humility is the clothing that will take us rightfully into God’s secret chamber.

3.     Unlock: Understanding the nature, faithfulness and compassion of God is “divine wisdom”. Godly understanding will raise our faith level above the problem and the peril and unlock God’s help and blessings.

Prayer is ‘understanding the mind and the heartbeat of God’.

Mark 11:24-25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

Prayer: King Jesus, may my prayers be words that will unveil the mind of God and reveal the plan of God.  Amen.
