06 November 2023 – Eagle Eyes – Part 2

Acts10:4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.

An “Eagle Eye” means a person who is watchful and careful to notice even the very small details and the minute specks.

Eagle eyes of the Lord noticed an Italian regiment who was holy, humble and honest. His prayers and generosity went up to heaven as a memorial offering. Memorial offerings according to Leviticus 2 are offerings of gratitude, devotion, and praise. It is not a sin offering, but that of an offering of thanksgiving. For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him (2 Chronicles 16:9). Cornelius was a gentile, but Bible scholars believe that he would have been one of the eye witnesses of the gruesome death and the resurrection of Jesus. Cornelius, a converted Christian was devout, God-fearing and generous and the “eagle eyes” of the Lord found him to be integrous and faithful.

The eyes of the Lord will distinguish and discern the intention behind our actions. “Generosity or service” fueled by gratitude will rise up to heaven like a sweet incense, but “giving and serving” inflated by attention-seeking, greed or popularity will die like a firecracker. People can be fooled but not the Lord God. Worldly recognition and praise is nothing but trash in heaven. Only the Lord’s testimony about us stands in the courtroom of heaven. Our unswerving commitment to the Lord, our cautious lifestyle and our deep desire to draw closer to Him will capture the conspicuous search of God’s eyes.

The Lord’s Eagle Eyes:

1.     Commitment: Wholehearted commitment is defined as faithful obediencelove and selfless service. So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul (Deuteronomy 11:13). Our commitment to follow Him with all our heart and soul turns the Lord God’s attention towards us.

2.     Cleanliness: Religiosity does not make us holy; only purity in our thoughts will keep us clean. You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean (Matthew 23:26). A clean heart will shine bright to grab the attention of the eyes of the Lord God.

3.     Closeness: The eagle eyes of the Lord will notice our earnestness to know Him and to get closer to Him. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? (Psalm 42:1).

The Eagle Eyes of the Lord will search and find for those who are committed, holy, and desirous of Him.

Acts 10:2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.

Prayer: Father God, when your eyes search the earth may my heart be found committed, clean and close to you. Amen.
