13 November 2023 – Pick Your Battles – Part 2

2 Chronicles 20:17 Take your stand, but standstill, and watch the Lord’s salvation on your behalf, Judah and Jerusalem! Never fear and never be discouraged.

“Life will be easier once you learn how to pick your battles.”

It is important to pick our battle strategies wisely. There are battles that we must fight but there are also those that we must just stand still, fully armed with spiritual weapons, to watch God fight and win the battle. The wisdom to choose between ‘the battles that have to be fought’ and ‘the battles that have to be watched’ is hidden in the Word of God.

We must fight against demeaning and derogatory voices that belittle, bind and break our confidence and steal our courage. Fight against insecurity, envy and hypocrisy. Jealousy, pride, fear, rage and animosity are attacks that must be fought in the battlefield of the mind.  If bitterness and enmity are fostered, we will be incarcerated and limited.

However, we don’t have to react to “hate comments”. When the enemy comes like a flood to usurp our inheritance or reputation, our battle strategy must be to “take our stand, but standstill”. “Taking our stand” is to assume a posture of prayer and praise with bended knees and arms lifted high. “Standing still” is the serenity of the soul. Anxiety and panic fogs our brain but calmness and stillness will allow God to fight against the unlawful authorities, illegal attacks and the disgusting slander. Don’t react, complain or retort on social media. There are comments on FaceBook that must be ignored, blocked or deleted. Be patient, take your position of prayer and keep praising to see the salvation of the Lord.

Don’t fight hate battles:

1.     Armed: When attacked by foul words, derogatory comments and illicit shame or blame, put on the full armour of the Lord and take your stand in your prayer closet. When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him (Proverbs 16:7). We need not prove that we are innocent if we are blameless. Honesty has a voice and it speaks for itself.

2.     Anchored: We must be anchored in His Word. Stand firm on God’s promises. God is bigger than our biggest problem. Pray like Jehoshaphat, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (vs 12b). Be anchored on His Word.

3.     Authorized: We are authorized to enslave the intimidating, insinuating and intruding spirits. Our fight is not against flesh and blood. It is not against the slandering, harming or conniving people – it is against the demonic spirits that operate through them. Use your authority to drive anger, hate, envy and baloney that is barraging you. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you (Luke 10:19). Tread upon them; don’t allow them to walk over you.

The fighting posture against hate incited by pride and prejudice is a position of prayer.

1 Peter 3:9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing.

Prayer: Father God, give me the wisdom to discern my strategy for the battles that I face. Amen.
