18 December 2023 – Talking Book – Part 2

Deuteronomy 32:1-2 Listen, you heavens, and I will speak; hear, you earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.

The Bible is God’s Word and His voice. Dew forms in the morning before sunrise. If the sky is mostly clear overnight, the ground cools and the warm air radiates away from the ground up towards the sky, dew forms on the grass. Showers can fall at any time during the day or night but dew settles only early in the morning. Dew plays an essential role in regulating the inner water of plants and helps them activate photosynthesis (make food) rapidly. Metaphorically, the dew of God’s Word strengthens the inner man. It is the spiritual food that keeps us nourished and spiritually healthy. The Lord God nurtures and feeds us with the morning dew and seasonal rains.

It is important to make time to read and listen to the Talking Book. If we read ritualistically, the rain water will be drained away. The showers of God’s Word must be harvested, recorded and ruminated. Likewise if the night is cloudy, there will be no dew in the morning. If our mind is clogged with worries and stress there will be no refreshing dew in the morning. Put yourself to sleep singing, speaking in the heavenly language or humming a worship song. By doing so, we clear the skies for the dew to drench our mind. Similarly, we must have a system to harvest the rain water. Have a log book to record what God is teaching you every day. We must read the Bible eagerly with hunger to uncover its depths. Searching the Bible just for promises does not help us to grow. We cannot live on desserts! We need platefuls of protein and vegetables to nourish our soul. So make time to listen to the Talking Book to speak to you.

The Bible is a Talking Book:

1.     Read: The eagerness and hunger of the reader determines the density of the rain and dew. Those who believe in ‘a verse a day keeps the devil away’ will not hear the voice of God. We must take time to read. If we lose concentration on a line or verse, it is important to go back and read it until it goes into our heart. Reading out loud and reading with concentration will allow the Talking Book to invigorate our spirit.

2.     Record: Recording what we learn is crucial for growth. As the dew helps with photosynthesis, journaling and recording our learning will revitalize growth.

3.     Ruminate: Ruminating on what we have read will nurture growth. The more we meditate on what God spoke to us, the clearer it will be to us.

The Bible is the living audible talking book that talks to us even today. Read, record and ruminate every day and make time for the Talking Book to talk to you.

Job 23:12 I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Prayer: Father God, before I feed my tummy, I will feed on your Word. Talk to me as I read Your Word. Amen.
