30 January 2024 – Why Pray? – Part 2

Psalm 147:9 He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.

“Prayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscle of Omnipotence” — Charles Spurgeon

Prayer plugs us into the socket of the divine sources. Prayer is the link that connects us with the supernatural provision.  Prayer gives us access to the resources of heaven. We can make withdrawals of divine support, supply, services and solutions through the catalyst of prayer.

He who knows how to overcome, with God in prayer, has heaven and earth at his disposal. — Charles Spurgeon

Jesus said, don’t fill your prayer with your wants and needs. He said, don’t worry about how we will pay the mortgage, the school fees or buy groceries. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear….For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them” (Matthew 6:25&32). Then what do we pray for? Why pray if our heavenly Father is already aware of our financial, emotional and physical needs? Jesus also gave us the answer, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (vs 33). So our time of prayer should be to seek His presence, His will, His ways and His plans for us. We don’t have to go to God in desperation for our basic needs. We are the King’s kids and when we seek Him in prayer, we have access to all of His resources.

Prayer is the connecting link to divine resources:

1.     Supply: For the journey from Egypt to Canaan the Lord had already planned the supply chain of heaven to deliver manna in the desert but the people grumbled in anxiety and fear against the Lord and Moses (Exodus 16:3). When the need arose, the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you” (vs 4). When we are in need we just have to plug into the divine source in prayer and receive the heavenly resources. The Lord hears the mooing cows and the chirping birds and the crying baby ravens and feeds them. How much more will our praise unlock the provision of heaven!

2.     Services: Prayer gives us access to divine support and angelic services. Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14). A home and heart that is filled with praise and prayer is always surrounded by angelic hosts and helpers.

3.     Solutions: Prayer invades and floods our hearts with God’s presence and peace. Jesus said, don’t worry, stress or be anxious – just pray. Prayer brings solutions. Prayer replaces worry with worship and panic with peace.

Why pray when God already knows our needs? Prayer is accessing His presence and tapping into the divine provision and providence.

Psalm 147:8 He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills.

Prayer: Dearest Jesus, teach me the secret to stop lamenting about my needs and enjoy your presence in prayer. Amen.
