05 February 2024 – Hallowed – Part 1

Matthew 6:9 “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name”.

In the template of prayer that Jesus gave us we can dwell on the phrase “Hallowed Be Thy Name” for hours. The word “Hallowed” in the Merriam-Webster dictionary means ‘greatly revered and honoured’. The old English roots to this word can be traced back to holy. Yahweh/Jehovah can be addressed with different names; Jehovah Rapha (God our Healer), Jehovah Shalom (God our Peace), Adonai (Master or Ruler), Elohim (The Living God), El Roi (The God who sees), Jehovah Nissi (God our Banner/Victory), Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord My Righteousness), Jehovah Raah (God my Shepherd) and so on. These names are different expressions of the nature of God that stirs up the incense of worship in us.

Revering and worshipping the name of the most holy, awesome and all-powerful God immerses us in the river of worship. We start our prayer by addressing the Lord God as our ‘Daddy or Abba’ and then we must plunge into adoration and adulation. There are no perfect dad’s or any human relationships that can be compared to the ultimate Father in heaven. So those who did not or don’t have a loving father must not distort our heavenly impeccable Father with their earthly fathers.

‘Hallow’ also means ‘respect’. The way we pay respect is through adulation, obedience and reverential fear of God. The name Elohim occurs more than two thousand five hundred times in the Hebrew Bible. The first mention of Elohim is in Genesis 1:1. In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth. The literal translation of Elohim is ‘strong one’. Elohim refers to The Creator God. The creative power of God has not stopped after Genesis 1. He is still the Creator God. His creative power is contained in His Word. So when we speak scripture we are engaging to experience the creative power with our Abba Father. “I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” Says the LORD, “And I will heal him” (Isaiah 57:19). Hallow Elohim – the Creator God.

Hallowing Elohim releases the creative power of God:

1.     Abba: Hallow or adoration is an expression of reverential love and respect. Addressing our Lord and our God as Abba draws us close to His heart. The first key to allow heaven to invade earth is by addressing Father God Abba or Daddy.

2.     All-Mighty: Worshipping our Father in heaven as All-Mighty instills confidence and diffuses fear. He is Elohim, All-Mighty. There is nothing that He cannot do. “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me? (Jeremiah 32:27). The fear of any human autocracy, tyranny or influence will dissipate as we address our Daddy as Elohim.

3.     All-Powerful: Adoration of our Father God will drive out any demonic fear, oppression or dominion. He is All-Powerful, over both the seen and the unseen realms.

Hallow Elohim – the Creator God, the All-Mighty and All-Powerful God.

1 Kings 8:23 “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven above or on the earth below.”

Prayer: Abba Father, Elohim you are all-mighty and all-powerful. There is nothing too hard for you. Amen.
