27 February 2024 – Summer Is Coming – Part 2

Genesis 8:22 As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall never cease.”

Seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter are determined by the universal clock as the earth revolves around the sun. Seeding will be in autumn and harvest will be in spring and summer. Autumn rains germinate the seeds and the spring rain helps with the fruiting. Then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil (Deuteronomy 11:14). A farmer who sows wheat will harvest wheat and a farmer who sows barley will reap barley. No one can sow wheat and reap barley. They will only reap the fruits of the seeds that they sow.

Allegorically our life operates on the same principle of sowing and reaping. We are reaping the fruit of the seeds that we planted in the past. Our decisions, choices and actions of today will be the harvest of our tomorrow. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life (Galatians 6:7-8). Summer is coming.

Reading the book of Esther would be like watching a thriller movie. The vile villain Haman reaped the seeds of bitterness, hatred and revenge, and the integrous Jew Mordecai reaped the bountiful harvest of integrity and righteousness. Haman was a descendant of the Amalekites King Agag (1 Kings 15). Amalekites were a vicious, ferocious and indomitable tribe who oppressed Israel and had no fear of the Lord God (Deuteronomy 25:18). The seeds of animosity, anti-Semitism and antagonism were reaped by Haman and Mordecai’s righteousness bore fruits of lasting blessings, promotion, popularity and possessions.

The persecution and oppression for standing on the ground of righteousness and truth will end. ‘Summer is coming’!

Summer Is Coming:

1.     Seeding: The thoughts we ruminate on are the seeds we will sow into our life. Thoughts of love, forgiveness and humility will turn into fruits of joy, peace and prosperity. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming (Colossians 3:5-6). Destroy unhealthy seeds and nurture holy seeds.

2.     Sowing: Weeding should precede seeding. Weeds and tares will choke the growth of good seeds. Toxic thinking will turn our mind into a toxic trashcan. Uproot lethal thoughts and sow good seeds.

3.     Storing: Store seeds of righteousness. A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children (Proverbs 13:22a) but the most precious inheritance is the warehouse of righteousness that we leave back for our generation.

Summer is coming; truth, righteousness and God’s justice will stand.

Psalm 37:25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to live with the consciousness that ‘summer is coming’ and to always remember that my thoughts and actions are the seeds that I sow into my future.  Amen.
