29 February 2024 – Summer Is Coming – Part 4

Proverbs 6:6-8 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!  It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

Get to work! Summer is coming! Don’t waste your time. Time is precious. Time is the most precious commodity on the earth. No one can buy back the time that has gone by. Hence every minute must be put to the best use. Summer is when the ants get to vigorous work. They store for the cold and snowy winter months.

Spiritually speaking, being productive must not be a seasonal occurrence.  Every day with “good health, cognitive coordination and physical ability” is like a bright sunny day to live a fruitful life. Plan the best use of time for every day including holidays, weekends and evenings.  Whiling away or wasting time in regret, rage or revenge is like throwing money in the trash can. Spare time must be used for our personal and spiritual development or to bless others. If we get off the phone and feel dumped with the truck load of gossip garbage we have just wasted our most precious possession – Time.

Ants work hard in summer and stay home in winter and feed on the provision during the icy cold months. “Make hay while the sun shines”. Paul the apostle had a full-on ministry as well as a full-time job to fend for his needs. You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:34-35). Time on earth will soon pass away. Invest it wisely and leave a legacy. But you do not know what will happen tomorrow! Your life is like a mist (James 4:14).

Summer Is Coming:

1.     Invest: Paul wasted no time. He invested every minute into preaching the gospel or working with his hands.  He was a tentmaker and was so full of the Holy Spirit even in his secular job that the apron and the handkerchief that he used to wipe his sweat had the power to set people free from sickness. People would take handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched Paul’s skin to those who were sick (Acts 19:12). Even his sweat on his brow was anointed!  Those who invest their time wisely will become a blessing to others.

2.     Divest: Divest from unfruitful engagements and entertainment. Take an account of how you spend your time and eliminate time-stealers.

3.     Harvest: Hard work will yield a bountiful harvest. Time once used can never be recovered. So invest shrewdly and harvest bountifully.

Lessons from the ant – “Time is precious, don’t waste it, invest it”.

Ephesians 5:16 But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me to make wise choices to invest, divest and harvest. Amen.
