22 March 2024 – Securities – Part 5

Acts 7:35 This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

Moses left Egypt as a prince but returned as an ordinary peasant. Yet, the same people who rejected ‘Prince Moses’ followed the anointed ‘Pastor Moses’ when he returned back to Egypt as an anointed deliverer. While Moses was in the Pharaoh’s palace, he built his security around his title, powers and influence but he was stripped of his position and power in the desert before he was appointed and anointed as a pastor. As long as Moses held on to his worldly securities God could not use him as a prophet to deliver the Hebrew slaves.

A publication of ‘HAARETZ’ mentions that “Moses was raised in Pharaoh’s palace, and on reaching adulthood was appointed chief of the army and led the Egyptian troops in a war against their Ethiopian enemies. It was a tough battle. To mislead the enemy, Moses guided the Egyptian army along an unexpected route, through the desert.” So Moses was grounded on the substratum of political influence, physical strength, proficiency and popularity which turned into insecurity when the Pharaoh was displeased with him. When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well (Exodus 2:15).

Confidence in our skills, strength and self-confidence; political influence, physical strength or proficiency will turn into custard when attacked, criticized or intimidated. Trust in titles, treasures and talents are securities in the wrong place that will lay a fragile foundation for an ambitious future.

“Insecurity is security in the wrong place”.

Be set-free from worldly influence, position and power :

  1. Title: Titles bring along power and privileges but those who rely on their influence and authority will shutter when the titles are stripped away. What Moses could not do as a ‘Powerful Prince’ he was able to do as an ‘Anointed Peasant’. Titles will be stripped away but those who trust in the Lord will flourish.
  1. Treasures: The treasures of the world will vanish. The wealthy prince of Egypt became an overnight popper. Treasure the One who is the source of the treasures.
  1. Talents: Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds (Acts 7:22) yet with his “position” he could not deliver the oppressed. It wasn’t the talents, wisdom or skill-set but the anointing of the Lord that made Moses an influential leader.

Our security is in the Giver of the titles, treasures and talents and not the gifts.

Proverbs 28:25 He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the LORD will be prospered.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, There are times when I unconsciously put my trust in titles, treasures and talents which leave me chained to fear. I surrender the worldly unreliable securities of influence and opulence to trust in You and You alone. Amen.
