27 April 2024 – The Three Ms – Part 6

Luke 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

The value of the ‘content’, not the ‘container’ will determine the price of the jar. There are several fake perfumes in fancy bottles that are cheap but classic colognes would cost hundreds of dollars for just a few milliliters. The heart is the storage container; it is the treasure house of goodness or the trashcan of malevolence. The heart is the hard drive that stores everything that the mind, the central processing unit (CPU), meditates on. Hence, it is very important to delete unwanted files that occupy the storage space of our heart.

Likewise, if our garage is filled with unwanted goods and garbage, then we can never find what we want in the clutter. Allegorically our heart is also a storage unit. If it is cluttered with unwanted junk then the jewelry will get lost in the junk-house.

This is why it is very important to keep the hard drive of our heart clean and de-cluttered. Research shows that there is a strong connection between emotions such as love, anger, resentment, depression, betrayal, loneliness or hostility and the heart. The mind is the seat of our emotions but the feelings that affect us psychologically and physiologically are called “heart-emotions”. Heart-emotions affect us both mentally and physically, increasing the heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature. The heart and mind are closely connected and hence it is very important to filter the thoughts that we meditate on before they deposit as indelible memories in our heart. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23).

The taste of the water that springs from our mouth is determined by the memories stored in the heart.

The interconnection between Heart-Emotions and Mind, Mouth & Morality:

1.         Trash-Can: If the heart reserves integrity, the mouth will speak the truth and the lifestyle will be integrous but if the heart is treacherous, the mouth will spew trash.

2.         Trunk-Box: The heart is the truck-box or the storage unit of good and bad memories. Declutter your heart from bad, painful or depressing memories. A cluttered heart cannot think right and make wise decisions. The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin (Proverbs 10:14). Clean the clutter in your trunk-box.

3.         Treasure-House: The heart that stores God’s Word becomes the treasure-house. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth (Proverbs 10:20). But the networth of the wealthy-wicked is worthless. A man who treasures God’s Word in his heart will speak wisely and act prudently.

The words and actions display the treasures or the trash of the heart.

Psalm 119:11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Prayer: Father God, show me the clutter of painful or perverse memories and teach me to revamp my heart into a treasure-house. Amen.
