26 May 2024 – The Believer and the Beast – Part 7

1 Samuel 17:51 David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.

The believer who refuses to cower to the threats of the beast will overcome the enemy. David used the same sword that Goliath used to torment the army of Israel, to slice his head.

The mouth of the beast is blasphemous. The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority (Revelation 13:5). The mouth of the giant Goliath was also very offensive. Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other” (1 Samuel 17:10). The Lord of Hosts fought the battles of Israel. So Goliath not only slurred Israel but blasphemed the armies of the God our Creator.

The giant of Gath, Goliath is the prototype of the beast, the devil and his demons. The only power he has over a believer is to insinuate our mind with fear and intimidation. He incites us with anger, irritation, frustrations and instigates us into envy, strife and dissension. The demons wait to see our reaction to the lethal thoughts that they inject and make their next move to intrude into our lives. If we cower in dread then they will infiltrate us with more dreadful thoughts. Goliath cursed God and challenged the troops of Israel day after day for 40 days and they fled before him (vs 24). The demons do the same to those who react in fear rather than responding in faith.

The Believer’s response and the Beast’s reaction:

1.         Overkill: The lethal thoughts that the demons shoot at us will always be over exaggerated. This is why more than 90% of what we are afraid of never comes to pass. David didn’t stop with slaying the giant with his slingshot; he ran and stood over him and took his sword and severed his head! Use the same weapon that the enemy tried to kill you to chop his head. Overkill the negative, fearful and pessimistic thoughts with the sword of God’s Word, until the demons flee back to hell.

2.            Override: Decipher the warnings of the Holy Spirit and the intimidation of the evil spirits. If we react in fear we are dragged by the demons into a trap. The Holy Spirit will gently nudge us to make the right decisions. Override the angry thoughts about your spouse, fearful thoughts about your finances and the qualms about your future with positive and affirmative confessions.

3.         Overcome: Overcome the blasphemous beast and then become an ambassador for Christ to help others to overcome the same addiction, illness or abuse that once kept you captive.

Use the same weapon that once enslaved you to chop the head of the beast.

1 Samuel 17:54 David took Goliath’s head and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put Goliath’s weapons in his own tent.

Prayer: Father God, teach me not to cower at the garrulous beast but to take the weapon from his hand and slay his head. Amen
