28 May 2024 – The Diamond in the Dirt – Part 2

1 Samuel 2:8 He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor.

Diamonds are formed under high pressure and high temperature about 100 miles below the earth surface over millions or even billions of years. The difference between diamonds and other gemstones is their dazzling sparkle. Diamonds dazzle when light shines on them as the light rays bounces and reflects several times on the facets of the diamond, before leaving it. The farther the light travels before leaving the diamond, the more it separates the rainbow colours radiating splendid glistening beauty. Diamonds dance with the colours it glistens!

The Lord God finds us as the diamonds in the dirt and He shines His light on us. He picks and polishes us to make us glow and glorify Him. However, before we can glitter we must be processed and polished. A raw or uncut diamond must be sliced and cleaned before it glitters. Light deflects in different angles instead of properly reflecting when it shines on a raw unprocessed diamond.

When the world sees us as a ‘dirty rock’ the eyes of the Sovereign God envisages a ‘priceless diamond’. God doesn’t see us the way the world categorizes and marginalizes us. He sees His image in us even when we are raw, unprocessed and covered with the mistakes of our past. Our value in God’s eyes is not based on the mess, misuse and mistakes but in the diamond that is hidden under the dirt.

Raw Diamonds must be picked, processed and polished:

1.         Pick: We might not be noticed by people but God’s eyes have picked us up from the muck. Those who have mistreated us, have misread us as mere ‘rocks’ and have failed to see the hidden diamond. You are chosen and picked because the Lord sees you as a valuable diamond.

2.            Process: Diamonds are cut by cleaving and sawing. Cleaving is splitting along the natural lines and sawing cuts and shapes the stunning diamond. Our raw and rough innate nature will be cut by the divine cleaving and sawing devices. When your patience is tested by an egoistic boss and meekness is refined by a difficult relationship, remember that the raw diamond is being cut, cleaved and sawed.

3.         Polish: The method to polish a diamond is by grinding the rough diamond on a polishing wheel that is coated with a mixture of diamond dust and olive oil. We need the oil of the Holy Spirit to be slathered on us to be polished and refined.

The light of Christ cannot radiate the amazing God colours unless we are picked, processed and polished.

Isaiah 48:10b I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Prayer: Father in Heaven, thank you for handpicking me to be processed and polished as a valuable diamond for you. May I only reflect God colours into this dark world. Amen
