13 June 2024 – Discerning the Voice of God – Part 4

Galatians 1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

God’s voice will not contradict God’s written Word, The Bible. If we hear a message contrary to the Word of God, it is the voice of the stranger/enemy. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers (John 10:5). The stranger’s voice is the voice of the demons that come to tempt and lure us astray. Any thought or impression in our heart that does not line up with the truth from God’s Word is the voice of the stranger.

There are twisted theologies preached from the pulpits which contradict the truth. False preachers who manipulate the truth and advocate the rights of LGBTQ are misconstruing the Word of God and misinterpreting the love of God. God’s love is unconditional to all but He does not condone sin. The Apostle Paul instructed us clearly that even if an angel from heaven preaches a gospel that conflicts the truth from the written Word of God, it must be rejected.

The Lord God commanded Balaam not to curse His children who were travelling through Moab. God said to Balaam, “Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed.” (Numbers 22:12). Balaam was tempted by monetary gains and was pressured by the distinguished officials from Balak. Hence, he went back to the Lord again to seek His permission.

Once God says ‘no’ it is a ‘no’. Praying over a matter again and again will not validate anything that is contrary to the written Word of God. Running from one prophet to another to vouch what we want will not change the truth. Even though Balaam sought God’s permission again and again to go against God’s children, God’s voice did not reverse His written mandate about His children.

Discerning the Voice of God:

1.         Truth: God’s voice will lead us into righteousness. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth (John 16:13a). A voice that tells us that ‘white lies’, ‘vain imaginations’ or ‘cheap pleasures’  doesn’t hurt anyone or ‘outburst of anger’ is just a human weakness, is the voice of the stranger, the devil. God’s Word teaches us to overcome our frailty and His voice guides us into purity. Anything that contradicts the truth is not God’s voice.

2.         Test: Test the voice that you hear. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Any argument that camouflages sin or justifies a mistake is the voice of the stranger.

3.         Twisted: God’s voice will not twist the truth. Massaging God’s Word to suit our convenience is the deceptive voice of the devil. He even tried twisting the truth to Jesus in the wilderness.

God’s voice will confirm God’s word.

Titus 3:9 But stay away from those who have foolish arguments and talk about useless family histories and argue and quarrel about the law.

Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, help me to hear your voice loud and clear and identify the voice of the stranger that twists the truth. Amen.
